Hi,

Followed your advice and found - somewhat disappointing - the answer to the same question from other WP users:
< blockquote >No there is not a way to get rid of "protected." That is done by the WordPress core software and is not something that can be hidden via CSS.
The good question is why WP put "protected" in the title. We do not need the information in the header, since the following text clearly explains the readers about the requirement for password.

Your answer to the second question of protecting an entire Category of pages with password, is so far ok. However, for graphical reasons we would prefer the password placed in the category, rather than - as now - risking 10, maybe 20 equal password fields in a row that refers to each post.

We will be pleased if you good WP-people would consider the simple solution of placing a password in the category.

Thank you.

Hi there,

You may be able to change the word "Protected" with the use of CSS code in your Custom Design add on.

You can get help on what specific CSS code you should use by checking out the CSS Customization forum right here:

http://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

You can browse around and see if anyone has already asked that question, and if not you can ask yourself!

In regards to protecting the entire category of entries, as long as you protect each entry with the same password, when someone enters that password, any entry which uses that password will be unlocked, so they will only have to enter it once. Was that the behavior you were hoping for?

We use password protected posts on the Debut theme. Unfortunately, the system put the word "Protected" in the headline (in our Danish "Beskyttet"). It does not look pretty, so can we get rid of the automatically generated word?

Another question in same context: Is it possible to protect an entire category of entries with a single password, so you only need to type your password into one place?

Anyone who wants access to a Private blog on WordPress.com needs a WordPress.com identity. There is no other way to verify who they are.

If you want, you can simply password protect every page and use the same password, and then they don't need an identity. This is much less secure, though.

There are no other workarounds.

I just created a new website via WordPress.com. I purposely set this up for Private viewing with the intent of sharing my work (gallery of images) with clients for viewing purposes only (not looking for clients to contribute, comment or post). I want my website to be hidden from the public eye and avoid Google search engines results.

When done, I was excited to share my work and sent a few invitations to clients and quickly discovered that clients were required to create an account with WordPress.com before viewing my site.

This is an awkward hassle which I did not expect to impose on my clients whose only intent is to look at my work. I would be willing to pay a fee to avoid this hassle of having clients being required to create a WordPress account.

I researched WordPress.com to see if I could create a password log in page for my website so that a client who receives my personal email invitation would be given a password to log in and not be required to create an account.

After researching the Support forums, I am sadly discovering that I may have to transfer my website over to the self-hosting WordPress.ORG world to avoid this hassle.

I like the benefits of using WordPress.com and the convenience of not having to worry about the set up and maintenance as expected on the WordPress.org side. I understand WordPress.com is free ... yet I am willing to pay WordPress.com a fee to have a password protected log in page.

Would WordPress.com consider this as an option for users like myself.

I am struggling to figure out what my next steps would be if this is not an option. Any help or suggestions from you would be sincerely appreciated.

Thank you!
