Don't know about the PayPal - but you need to fix your load time - the humungous poster on the front page takes a ton of bandwidth and will turn visitors off - you need to fix that - put small picture of poster with a link to the bigger poster or something - I would never visit your site takes too long to load

Really hope someone can help me here. I have nearly finished building the blog for our VW show. We had a rubbish site on Moonfruit before.
People need to be able to buy tickets for the show via our site/blog i have now read (yes, right at the very end of hours of work) that you can only add a paypal donate button and not a buy button.
We already have a merchant account set up with paypal.
Can anyone suggest anything i might be able to do to get round this?

HI, i'm getting complaints from our visitors, donors, that the paypal buttons don't work correctly.
Here's one such msg:
Hi Ruth,
Just tried paypal and got the below message!! Anyother alternatives?

Send MoneyWe're sorry. We're not able to complete personal payments to
account holders in Israel at this time.

You can pay for purchases and services or send money to friends and family.
Send Money
To (Email or mobile phone)
AmountAmount (Sending Limit: (?)

After that last (?) it shows a certain amount. Is the the amount they could theoretically send us? I feel that should be private.
Finally why specific to Israel?
I read in another support forum here that the buttons often only work if you use and unencrypted version, but isn't that lessing the security of it for our donors?
Is there another plugin I can try instead?

"HTML editor" and "Text editor" are synonymous.

timethief, Thank's for that. I think my problem is finding the HTML editor. All I have is text and visual. When I paste to text the code shows up but when I go to visual it's still in code. I'll keep trying till I figure it out.

Just copy the exact code from your Contacts Option page (well, all the code pertaining to Paypal) from the HTML editor and paste it in a Text widget.

Thanks. I seem now to have a donation button linked to my paypal account on my Contacts Option page. That will have to do for now. I hoped to manage to have it on the sidebar of the Home page as well. I'll battle with that another day. Thanks for help

The reason it's not working is that that simply does not ever work here. You're not doing anything wrong. ONLY the unspecific, and unencrypted, Donation button can be used here.

I am probably being very dim. I followed the Support page on each step to install a paypal button ( on my contact options page). But the paypal code to link the button to a payments option does not seem to effect the link. Presumably I click on the image, click on visual editor link sign and ctl +c and ctl +v to get the link to my paypal account? Is that correct?

Yes you can see your own book, but I'm afraid that the only button that will work here is the plain HTML donate button. The other buttons require scripting for encryption and that is not allowed here for security reasons.

I think if you have a flat fee for the book and shipping, you can set that as the amount for the donate button. You will have to verify that at Paypal, but I think I remember it being that way.

I am trying to post a paypal button code onto my Contact Page. The support 'walk through suggests only a 'Donate' button. Am I allowed to sell books through WordPress? If so please tell me the process for posting the 'Add to Cart' button code. Do I need to go through Edit page before adding button code in HMTL? The email connection option does not seem to be suggested in the paypal process through which I got the code.

Yes, you can export your site contents to a .org site. Not the theme though.

Those things are doable on a .org site but you need to seek instruction there or at Paypal for those.

p.s. I can't even get the simple paypal buttons to 'embed' either. I have to create a paypal button image and load it on my page with a link to the available Paypal buttons (that support a link). Many of their buttons only have html code and don't have a specific link to them. So, without an embedding capability, I can't use these great Paypal buttons.

I will check out the options for the .org WordPress sites. Can I port my site to a .org address? Here are my needs:

1) I would like the person to be able to select from a specific list to state how they want their donation to be applied. Examples: church maintenance, community outreach programs, general funds, etc. This may be a Paypal limitation, though. Is there some way to get this information on the Paypal transaction?

2) We have an idea for a Church store. All products are donated items from local businesses or are handcrafted by our congregation. 100% of the money raised will go directly into whichever church fund the person wants.

I have implemented a limited strategy on my site to do these things. But it would sure be nice to be able to re-program a Paypal 'add to cart' button!

Would LOVE some direction!

We are considering it! But it won't be added in the very near future.

I agree with timethief that simple PayPal buttons, which you can indeed use here at WordPress.com are the way to go for a church. Try it out!

Free hosted WordPress.com blogs cannot be equipped for e-commerce transactions but WordPress.org installs can be.

You can use an unencrypted PayaPal donation button and that ought to work very well for a church. We can also use a contact form and customize it on a free hosted WordPress.com blog.

The custom design upgrade is only for changing blog appearance. The custom design support entry clearly states it cannot be used to edit HTML. We cannot edit themes ot templates on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/

Hi,

from what I can see, WordPress doesn't allow html embeds. Why is that? I am creating a Church website and wish to put our fundraising items on the site. I found the paypal store widget which is pretty cool- but it is extremely limited. I have to use an image and link to the store. But Paypal offers so much more that would be helpful! I would really like to be able to create a more flexible 'store' in my blog. Not for commercial purposes- but for non-profit activities. All our own original crafts & music. The trouble is that Paypal only offers a https link for some of their 'buttons'. The others, like 'Add to Cart', only come with html code! Therefore, I can't use the functionality on my blog.

I can also add that I have desperately wanted this functionality many times for other reasons. It would be so valuable!

I have zero plan to change from WordPress but plan to continue within its parameters. What I am looking for here is an answer to two questions:

1) Am I correct in saying that WordPress doesn't accomodate the html embeds at all? Even if I have the CSS upgrade?
2) Will you be adding this functionality in the near future? (I hope so!)

Is it possible to cut/paste a "Pay Now" button onto my WP blog. It looks like I can only cut/paste a "Donate" button unless I have a URL for my own image (which I don't). I've been at it for hours and hours and am so frustrated!

Add to Cart buttons and Constant Contact signup forms do not work here; they contain script which is stripped out for security reasons. You can get a totally basic Donate button from Paypal and install it, but you can't use the encrypted form.

If Add to Cart and forms are requirements for you, you will have to move your blog to an external host, install software from WordPress.org, and run it there. Then the security risks won't apply. But then you are on your own for tech support.

The paypal "add to cart" buttons I don't think will work here since they contain javascript, and javascript is not allowed here due to security concerns: http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/ .
