2. Is there a simple way to link an image to a PDF? This is how I do it. I upload all the PDFs and all the JPGs - then I go in and individually change the URL of the image to connect to the PDF.

I have sometimes scanned into an image file and then worked the image over a bit with something like Photoshop or Gimp to get an image that is easier to read - then convert back to PDF

Yes, the PDF is a scanned document. I tried several resolutions: 600 DPI, 300 DPI, 150 DPI. In any lesser resolution I don't get a satisfactory result in Acrobat Viewer, i.e. the text, which is in small font, does not appear readable (and please notice, I am not referring to the display of the PDF in the blog).

It is true that the first page in particular is hard to read, and one can see the mask. However the later pages still appear almost unreadable.

When I open the PDF using Chrome's built-in PDF viewer, there is some sort of interference that makes the first page, in particular, hard to read.

When I open the same PDF using Window 8's viewer, that interference is not visible. I haven't checked it using Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader nor any of the viewers on my Ubuntu Linux box yet.

My initial thought is that WordPress didn't modify the file, but the original PDF has some layer that is rendering poorly in some viewers, which happen to include the Chrome viewer.

Can you try downloading the PDF and opening it up in a different viewer? Are you seeing the same results I am?

The information is stored in the database. Sometimes you may delete the original, wait a bit (not sure why) and try again and it will not add the number but it does by default. The information on the file name is stored in the database, thus it automatically adds a number to the end to differentiate the "versions" even if you are replacing the file. Those downloading it rarely pay attention to the numbers.

Everything was working fine till now. Some of my readers were complaining that they only saw the image when they clicked on it. When I tried to open the pdf file a few minutes ago (by clicking on the image), everything seemed fine at first, but then I noticed that some of the fonts are not shown correctly and some of the letters are missing. The same thing happened when I opened the pdf file in my library.

What could be the problem? My browser? The uploaded content?
