... that shows both the old and new versions

Yeah, I get the same page. But it only compares the changes to the prior revision. Let me give you an example.

We're using revision heavily when translating the support pages to german. Sometimes two to three people are working on a page. So the revision module might look like this:

User 3, 4 days ago (Juni 3rd, 2013 @ 20:36:16)<br />
User 3, 4 days ago (Juni 3rd, 2013 @ 20:12:45)<br />
User 2, 5 days ago (Juni 2nd, 2013 @ 16:12:08)<br />
User 2, 5 days ago (Juni 2nd, 2013 @ 15:53:36)<br />
User 1, 6 days ago (Juni 1st, 2013 @ 08:14:17)<br />

If I post a link https://blahblah.wordpress.com/wp-admin/revision.php?revision=501&action=edit in our teamblog and user 1 clicks on it he/she only sees the changes between the current revision of user 3 and the other one by the same user. If he/she wants to see the changes between the current revision and his/her own (user1) revision you have to enable the checkbox on the upper right and use the slider above to make the comparison. This means a lot of clicking.

Before the changes the urls looked like this: https://blahblah.wordpress.com/wp-admin/revision.php?action=diff&post_type=page&right=297&left=812

You see? Two revisions within the URL. By simply one click you could see a comparison between the changes of user 1 and user 3 without the need to do all the extra work on finding/configuring the revisions yourself.

Hi Martin,

I'm not sure if I understand correctly. When clicking on a revision, I get a page "Compare revisions of ___" that has a link along the lines of https://blahblah.wordpress.com/wp-admin/revision.php?revision=501&action=edit (not a real link!) that shows both the old and new versions (red and green showing changes) and that link can be shared with anyone who has access to that blog.

This is the same as it's been for a long time, so I'm thinking you must be talking about something else?

Before the recent changes in the revision module you were able to link to a revision comparison. This was very useful when translating the support pages and discussing it on our P2 teamblog.

I recently tried to post a new revision comparison and couldn't find a way to link to a comparison of two specific revisions. I mean a link that directly opens the comparison of two revisions without the need to specify them by the slider at the top of the page.

Has this feature been removed or made impossible due to the changes?

Cheers

Ok. Thanks! It's good that I got a clear answer, even it's negative. I don't use my blog that much as years ago when I was still a student, so I won't buy a space and set up a self-hosted blog there. It's a pity that I can't change the structure of the permalink, but I think I'll just take it and change the link by hand myself.

I'm sorry, it's not possible to change the structure of the permalink on WordPress.com.

There are no restrictions if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities. We have hosting recommendations at the following link if you are interested.

Thanks for both of your answers! I'm not an expert on any computer or internet stuff, and that's why I'm asking help here.

I'll do it one by one to change the link myself then. Thanks!
