Hey there,

The only thing I've thought up on my own is to create a separate account for myself, grant it permissions, and use that one. However, that would require setting up a whole new wordpress account, blog and all, and I don't want to create another account/blog to just sit there and not do anything.

This is probably your best bet if you'd like to continue using WordPress.com.

Unfortunately, this sort of functionality will require a plugin, which WordPress.com does not support. If you setup a WordPress.org blog, you can use a plugin like this to accomplish what you're after.

Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Best,
P.

I am creating a blog about various forms of fiction. I'd like to let authors put up samples of their writing, but I don't want to give status as an author or similar to every one - it would get ridiculous.

If I put things up (as far as I can tell, even if I post a downloadable document), my name appears on it. Can I suppress this? If not, can I somehow put another name on these uniformly (e.g. "Contributor) or individually (e.g. "Artie M. Author")? I'd also like to be able to post under my real name and pen name separately without creating a separate account, so this isn't just a multi-author issue.

The only thing I've thought up on my own is to create a separate account for myself, grant it permissions, and use that one. However, that would require setting up a whole new wordpress account, blog and all, and I don't want to create another account/blog to just sit there and not do anything.

I'm using Titan, and I have set it up with the "Authors" widget so that visitors can easily find content (such as book reviews) by my band of regular contributors. I'd like to keep this functionality. I am open to using another theme (although Titan is working very well for what I want visually)

The site I want to do this with is private right now (under development). My "regular" blog is shannonhowell.wordpress.com, if that is at all useful. I am using wordpress.com, not .org. If this would be only be possible using .org, please let me know :)

Any thoughts/help would be warmly welcome!

I am the only contributor, the creator, and the administrator for my blog, everythinginflux.wordpress.com. I've had the blog for almost a year, and I've been posting regularly the whole time with no problems. For a long time, I used the "publicize" feature to publish my blog posts on both Twitter and Facebook. A few weeks ago, I changed my Facebook settings and accidentally removed WordPress from my applications. The last time I posted a blog entry, I realized my mistake (when nothing showed up on my Facebook page), and I added Facebook to the "publicize" feature again, going through the steps to allow WordPress to have access to my Facebook account.

Today, I wrote a post and noticed before I published it that in the "publicize" box at the right of the "new post" screen there was a hyperlink that read "Authorize Connection with Facebook." I clicked the link and a new window popped up asking if it was okay to navigate away from the current page. I hadn't saved a draft of the post, so I clicked cancel and saved a draft. Then I clicked the "authorize" link again, and this time I was taken to a new screen (with no warning popup first) that said I wasn't authorized to do what I was trying to do so I should get my administrator to invite me. But I am the administrator! So then I decided to publish the post anyway (without the Facebook connection), and when I clicked on "Publish" the same thing happened, which is when I came here to write this.

Just now I checked the post, however, and it's been published (although not on my Facebook account).

Any idea what's going on and/or how I can fix it?

Thanks!

I see now that you do understand, my mistake. But I still have some remaining questions. In the article you linked me to, it is written:

"Anyone who has subscribed by RSS feed will not receive notice of new posts, nor will new posts be pinged by WordPress.com to the various etc."

If it is true that they will NOT receive notice of new posts (and I'm not saying it isn't true) then why do I keep getting a notification saying that they are?

This is why I keep saying -- something's not right. It appears to be a glitch. I will be thankful to know that they're not receiving my privatized posts, but I will be more thankful when I don't have to read that they are.

Of course, that second point of gratitude is secondary. As long as they're not reading it, I'm mostly satisfied -- even though WordPress tells me they're reading it every time I post.

Also glad it's been flagged for staff attention. Thank you.

Thanks for those links, timethief. However, I think you may have misunderstood. The blog is private, not public. IT used to be public, and that is when the subscribers subscribed.

Every time I post, I am still getting a notification that the "subscribers" are receiving my posts in their Inboxes, even though I have privatized the blog. These same subscribers will NOT be able to see my blog by clicking on a url.

This is why I wrote, above: "I decided to restrict the permissions on my blog so that it will now be read only be people whom I know and trust."

Is it actually the case that someone whom I have not specifically invited to read my private blog is reading it simply because he happened to subsribe BEFORE I privatized it?

That's the indication I get from the WordPress notification. If so, this isn't right, and I need to remedy the situation.

I have requested of him that he unsubscribe, but he has not done so. Again, this IS NO LONGER A PUBLIC BLOG.

Thanks.
