Just a note: the importer has been changed so that posts with a single image will now have the image and not a gallery, so this process may work better now, but we can't offer any promises since you are moving to a different platform.

Hello,

The short answer to your question is "no;" if you would like more information, please read on.

The Tumblr importer for WordPress assumes that you will be leaving the content on WordPress/WordPress.com or a system that understands WordPress content if you are to export that data later.

When you import images from a Tumblr blog, they are placed into a gallery automatically and the method you are using to import that into Blogger doesn't "understand" these galleries or how they work.

We'd love it if you would move your blogs to be here with us at WordPress.com; if you need any help or have any concerns about that, please let us know and we'll be happy to answer your questions about our service.

Thanks!

Thanks for your suggestions. However, the things I tried are not working. I have Windows 8, IE 10, have cleared my IE cache, & my Third Party Cookies are enabled.

When I go to Upload and Select Files, it shows me so-called "Allowed Files" and won't load my photos. I get an IE Box stating, "Internet Explorer is not responding" and with the options to Close the Program or Wait for the Program to Respond. Then Windows attempts to find a solution and displays a window of the appropriate folder of photos. Is there a way to download the ones I want from here?
Or do I have another issue entirely.
Thanks so much for your help.

If you think you have a browser related issue then go through these steps and report back your results.

If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.

Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported.
If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com please do these four things:

1. Try clearing your browser’s cache:

3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

If it’s still happening, let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/ and also post any error reports you get.

The alignment icons in the WordPress editor are for aligning text; they are not for aligning images. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#alignment They are used to achieve wrapping text around images on either the right or left hand side, or to display an image that's centered without text on either side of it. If the text beside the images does not occupy the same amount of space that the image beside it does then the text wrapping will continue and the images and text that follow will have a staggered appearance.

Align-left means position left, with the rest of the content wrapping around the right side of the image.
Align-right means position right, with the rest of the content wrapping around the left side of the image.
Align-center means position center, with no wrap-around (= the rest of the content below the image).
To prevent the staggered effect what you do is insert the following snippet of code into the HTML editor after each image/text pair:

<div style="clear:both;"></div>

Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application. If you want to learn how to format and space your posts and pages see:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-and-formatting-poetry/

If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph.

If you are working in the HTML (Text) editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/09/13/wordpress-formatting-and-spacing/

P.S. When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It's in the Visual editor Row 2 first position "style". See the illustration here http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2 If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.

The most important detail, in my opinion, is that .org doesn't come with help from WordPress in setting up and ongoing support. Some hosts have this through them, but you'll have to do the bulk of setting up yourself.

Benefits include being able to use any free theme you find online, but again - most of these are not supported in an ongoing way.

If you follow the directions at the link above, it should be clear how to use the .com features to set up your domain. You can set up the domain first and then get the custom design upgrade when you decide it's necessary.

Thanks for the reply! So, to make sure I understand it correctly, it seems like purchasing a domain (but not hosting) will enable us to stay at .com instead of going to .org, but we won't have to have the word "wordpress" in our address? And then purchasing the upgrades available at .com might conceivably be easier and less complicated to customize the site than diving into the css that would be necessary over at .org? I know there are many sites with explanations about the .com vs ,org, but I still can't seem to ferret out the pertinent details. I have to consider that the client wants to maintain her own site after we've set most of it up, so staying at .com might be easier for her?

You actually don't need to use a .org install in order to have your own domain. Just purchasing the domain.

This page has more information about domain mapping:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

Moving to .org would give you the ability to use a domain, but you also need to set up your own hosting, install the opensource WordPress yourself with your own mySQL database, and so on. If you decide you are up to figuring out these things on your own, you can find resources at the http://www.wordpress.org before you make your decision.

Until you've done that, yes, you don't need to purchase upgrades, but you may decide that it's going to be easier for you to get the domain upgrade through the .com version of WordPress (along with the support and ease that comes with it.)

1tess, I think you can save inline css in the post editor, though, right? I've seen a lot of people having issues with it (especially when they've pasted from a word doc and it adds margins to their paragraph tags or something like that.)

Totally true that you need the custom design upgrade to change the theme css, though, but I think that's not what's causing the issue here.

It actually looks like there is a larger file that is being downsampled with inline css and then upsampled again by the theme.

If you inspect the source or click on the image you can see that this file exists:

One thing to note is that you are uploading pictures which are only 300px wide. When you enlarge them to the full width allowed in Book Lite (750px) they will of course become blurry.

There are enough dots to make a 300px wide picture, but those pixels are trying to fill a much larger area so the spaces between them are filled with "guesses" about what should be there.

Unless you have purchased the custom design upgrade, you cannot save any of the changes you make. You don't need that anyway to insert images the size you want.

Here is a picture of the screen you'll see when you are uploading an image: http://en.support.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/image-settings1.png
Note #7 where it says, "Size." You have to scroll down to see the bottom part of that picture, but it allows you to choose full or large sized images.
Here is the whole support article where that picture came from:

Well I tried making changes to the CSS but it won't save. It tells me it's saving, but it never actually does.
I'm also just really horrible with computers, so figuring out how to make those changes is really confusing - I'm not even sure I'm doing anything correctly.
I've also never seen the choice of being able to select "full size" or "large" under the attachment display when I insert photos.

Quick general question....the owner wants her blog moved to .org so her address doesn't have "wordpress" in it. She wants more control over the look of her site. It appears that I have 2 options at .com....I can purchase the design upgrade (which I think allows control over the CSS), or the font upgrade. But my question is, since we're moving to .org, at that point we get control over the css anyway, so there is no reason to purchase the other upgrades? Trying to figure out what needs to be done here.

@timetheif
It's currently linked to my primary WordPress blog - which is, as you are close to mentioning, built on the .org open source build - but I wasn't aware that having that link was against any policy. I have not intended to give any implication that I'm available to for hire from WordPress forum users. I am not.
