You have a lot more flexibility with a WordPress.ORG install on your own server - and you can write all the code you want - WordPress.ORG uses I think MySQL for a Database - but you could probably write calls of some sort -

You might ask over at WordPress.ORG about the integration - might be easiest with html & php where you have full control and don't need to do as much integration other than the User Interface

I know it's bad :( But apparently we can't upgrade until our server provider fixes their stuff.
I guess I *am* in the wrong forum! I can't seem to keep track of what is .org and what is .com. Thanks, I'll ask over there.
Hopefully I can convince the tech guy to change us to a different provider soon. We're not really tech savvy here (I'm an intern and the only one here who knows any php) so it's hard to get things updated.

Hello everyone,
I'm working on my company's website and trying to figure out how to get an "aside" type thing to work using an older version of WordPress (our server will not work with the new WordPress)
What I want to do is have a single post titled "PERSON'S NAME" being their profile page, and have a second post titled "PERSON'S NAME 1" or somesuch, which will have resume information and will display on the side of the main post. The whole thing needs to be PHP so that a less experienced user can simply create PERSON'S NAME and PERSON'S NAME 1 and have it lay out correctly.
Logically, I think there should be a way of doing a
get_the_post("post_name"-1)
or something that would do this, but I haven't gotten it to work and haven't seen where I can get help doing this. Can anyone here give me a hint?
Or, if this is impossible, how to fetch a post with the same name but from a different category?
Thank you,
Stephanie
(I know there are plugins that could do this, but since we are running old WordPress, most plugins don't work and we are trying to avoid them)

   // Sends the gravatar path to image.php
function crop_avatar($path) {

      preg_match("/src='(.*?)'/i", $path, $matches);

      return get_template_directory_uri() . "/image.php?path=". $matches[1];
}

?>
and in PHP the code would be something like this
if(isset($_GET['path'])) {

    $path = $_GET["path"];
$image = imagecreatefromjpeg($path);

    $width = imagesx($image);
$height = imagesy($image);
// CircleCrop class is just a simple PHP GD image manipulation
$crop = new CircleCrop($image,$width,$height);

     // Convert the header to PNG
$crop->crop()->display();

}
anybody has any ideas? please..

Hi,

What's wrong: When I use mySQL custom query on one of pages AND I have some plugins I experience a conflict.

My custom query works well, but plugins show errors (Can't connect to gallery, can't find gallery etc.) or don't show up at all.
Custom query OR plugin -> everything's just fine.

An example of code:
$username= "wordpress_user";
$password = "wordpress";
$hostname= "localhost";

$dbhandle1 = mysql_connect($hostname, $username, $password)
or die("Unable to connect to MySQL");

$selected = mysql_select_db("denco_1",$dbhandle1)
or die("Could not select examples");

$result = mysql_query("SELECT szkolenia.temat, wykladowcy.nazwa, wykladowcy.oznaczenie, wykladowcy.id AS wykladowca_id, szkolenia.specjalnosc, szkolenia.id, szkolenia.pokaz FROM szkolenia LEFT JOIN wykladowcy ON szkolenia.prowadzenie = wykladowcy.oznaczenie WHERE szkolenia.pokaz = 'tak'");

if(mysql_num_rows($result) > 0) {
while($row = mysql_fetch_object($result)) {
echo "$row->specjalnosc."; }
Plugin code examples:
[nggallery id=1]
or
<?php do_action('slideshow_deploy', '74'); ?>
Doesn't matter if plugin (or widget) is in the same column with query or in the sidebar / footer. It seems that plugins that need a sql connection don't work when I use it...

What I've already tried:
-Wordpress update (twice, two last versions) -no difference;
-My theme (Atahualpa) update -no difference;
-Switch theme to Twenty Ten and Eleven - no difference;
-rename $username, $password, $hostname and $dbhandle variables -no difference;
-change php handling plugin (3 different)- no difference;
-import tables I need to wordpress database -no difference;
-import tables I need to wordpress database AND change
$result = mysql_query("Select...");
to
$result = $wpdb->get _results("Select...)
-no difference
-add and remove
mysql_close();
-no difference;

I'm out of ideas, I'd appreciate your help very much.
