I think I have the problem identified as an embedded player. WP supports the SoundCloud embedded player, but iTunes seems to be blind to it.

The feedburner links passes FeedMedic and PodMedic tests for podcasts. However, testing for submission into iTunes still fails.
... iTunes points to Feedburner with a problem .... Feedburner points to WordPress formatting problems. I just dont see any issue.

I am trying to submit my WP podcast feed to iTunes as a podcast, and get the error, "We had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed." I have been following the Podcasting instructions [http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/podcasting/] and fail when iTunes "tests the feed."

My WP category feed is: http://reasonup.wordpress.com/category/podcasts/
(The audio podcasts are embeded through SoundCloud.)

I tried burning the original category feed through Feedburner, but that didn't help.
(The feedburner feed link is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/ReasonUpPodcasts)

Research seems to point toward the original WP category feed not creating an 'enclosure' tag for the actual podcast file, but I need help to verify and how to resolve it this is the case.

If it is pertinent, the audio that the WP (and feedburner) feed is trying to 'enclose' is linked here: https://soundcloud.com/reasonup/tm001-icebreaker-mysecret

Greetings! I'm hoping for a "staff answer" for this one...

If you're a podcast producer who lists their podcast(s) in the iTunes Store, you may have recently received an e-mail, such as I did, from Apple outlining a couple updates to their requirements. One has to do with cover art (makes sense considering today's retina displays) and the other is a web server configuration detail. Here are the pertinent paragraphs:

New Cover Art Requirement
iTunes has been completely redesigned and there are new requirements for podcast cover art. To be eligible for featuring on iTunes Store, a podcast must have 1400 x 1400 pixel cover art in JPG or PNG format using RGB color space. The image URL must end in ".jpg", ".jpeg" or ".png" and the server hosting the image must allow HTTP HEAD requests. See our technical spec for details.

Server Configuration Requirement
Podcast streaming playback on iTunes requires all hosting servers to enable Byte Range Requests. Please confirm your hosting servers have this functionality enabled. If you work with a third-party hosting service, please contact them to confirm this functionality is enabled on their servers.

Can anyone verify whether WordPress.com both supports HEAD requests and Byte Range requests? I apologize if this is something that can be easily checked from afar...it's been quite a while since I ran a server myself (that's why I use this site, hehe) and I don't have much in the way of developer tools or HTTP packet inspection stuff installed on my desktop anymore.

Thanks in advance! :)

Just thought I would post to let everyone know that I too have this problem with podcast episode titles being pulled from IMG tags.

I have been searching for a solution with no luck since the Podcast app originally came out, and had just about given up all hope, until I found this thread. It's frustrating to see those crazy titles persist and yet be so helpless to do anything about it.

I would hate to think that the only way to fix this is to switch to another blogging platform. That would be a bummer, because I'm a huge WordPress fan and longtime user.

Is there any way that could be an option or widget? I currently use Feedburner to pick up the links and send them to iTunes; it'd be ideal if I could just do it directly through WordPress.
The only thing I have on it is a test post that links to a test mp3 file that is one archive.org

my feedburner link is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/faithfulfatherhoodpodcast

The file plays fine with the wordpress player, but the feed doesn't seem to be working properly. When I try to subscribe to the feedburner feed, the podcasting software says there is no audio files. I have search around a quite a while and I can't seem to get it to work.

Anyone have any thoughts on what is not working?
Thanks

Podcasting is not officially supported in WordPress yet. What we do at WordPress.com is probably different from the plugin you're using on WordPress.com.

In our case, we draw from the image title as it is essentially the "cover" image.

I have, however, noted your suggestions for possible future enhancements.

Dear zandyring. Thank you for helping us out with this issue. However, I do not agree with you on this statement:

... so it turns out that this is working as designed... it's pulling the title for images, not incorrectly naming the podcast.

It looks at the HTML for the post and looks for all the Images and then sets the title based on the tags that appear in the generated HTML giving priority to the title attribute over the alt attribute

If it pulls the title of an image as the post title, then each episode of the podcast is indeed being incorrectly named. I have a podcast setup form an independently hosted WordPress installation and the feed that it is outputting does not include any of the additional
<media:title>
tags.

Please see if it possible to clean up the XML outputted from WordPress.com, or at least include the option to output a "simple" feed without any unnecessary information such as gravatars and images.

Thanks,
Erik

Hi.
I recently set up podcast from wordpress.com via feedburner so our church can podcast sermons online.

It seems to be working, with one exception. If I search the iTunes store for Anacortes Christian Church, I can find the podcast channel and the episodes are listed underneath with the option to download.
HOWEVER, if I subscribe to the podcast, and pull it up in my library, it doesn't show any episodes unless I have already downloaded them from the store. This is unlike other podcasts, where episodes are displayed with the option to stream them or download them, right from your library. Any suggestions? Is this a feedburner issue? I noticed that the same thing is occurring on the Google Nexus 7's podcast service - you can only download, while other podcasts can stream. What's the deal? Any help?

We've been looking into the issue of the image/description not showing up, and so far can't find anything on our end that would prevent the image/description from updating and refreshing as intended. We ask that users with this issue check their SmartCast settings with Feedburner and make sure all the information there is accurate, and also make sure that all settings comply with Apple recommendations here:
