This is not a theme dependent issue:

You cannot post to a page!

Your blog has only one dynamic "page." It is not a normal static page; it is unique because every time you make a post it automatically changes to add the latest post to the top/beginning.

It is important to understand the differences between posts and pages.
Most pages (all pages except for the dynamic posting/home/front page) are static: you post information that doesn't change. For example you can write an "about" page or a "reference" page.

Posts are the articles you write for your blog. They are displayed in reverse chronological order. They have dates. They can be tagged and categorized.

So how can you have a blog with two or more topics? Use categories! When you add a category to a post, there is a link generated to that category. Every post you assign to that category will be listed in a way similar to your dynamic blogging page but the link will show only posts in that category.

With a custom menu you can make navigation tabs to both (well, to all) of your categories.

Here is information about how to do this:
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/

… I have a main page with a sort of story-line, but also have side one-off projects that I want to post about and wordpress seems to allow me to make a one photo, one time post to those pages, the follow-ups end up on my home page where I really do not want them.

This is not a theme specific question.

You cannot post to a page. There is only one dynamic page per blog: it's dynamic because it changes every time you publish a post. This is true of all themes on wp.com.

Posts are not the same as pages. They have dates and can be tagged and categorized. They appear on your blogging "page." Pages are static: no dates, no cats or tags. Pages have one article/story each.

You can link to categories, so use that to organize your blog with a custom menu. Categorize your "story line" and categorize "one off" and put those as navigation tabs on your menu.

http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

Have a static front page, like an introduction. Don't specify a blogging page. This will make your site appear as if you are posting on different pages because readers will choose categories to read.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Note: on wp.com we cannot use apps or plugins you find online:
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Thanks for the frank answer, you know I have started mailing letters at the post office more often, because all the expert easy apps websites, etc, by the time I log in an IF their website hasn't crashed, I could have been to the post office 10 times and back.

Tech is only nice when it works. If I have to pay for support, fine, sounds fair, tell me where and don't make me pick a user name and a password with one capital letter, one numerical symbol, but no special symbols! and not anything I used in the last 6 months, its easy use an app.

Paper is getting so much sexier.

Oh I am so sorry, if there is no app required I would be so happy to know how to add pictures to additional pages not the main page which I seem to be to lame to get them off of and see no option when I am posting to get them off of.

To be more specific, I have a main page with a sort of story-line, but also have side one-off projects that I want to post about and wordpress seems to allow me to make a one photo, one time post to those pages, the follow-ups end up on my home page where I really do not want them.

I googled the problem, I followed the directions of the app that you say I don't need, it would be so awesome if you just told me the answer vs. app re-match, but the app that I spent a lot of wasted time reading about was called Velvet Blues or Blue Velvet or some other super cute play on words of the old movie, by our favorite whateverhecallshimself, but yes am a fan.

But it totally did not work, the pages or different, the screens are different, but so don't care, would just like to be able to learn how to post pictures to ancillary pages after the initial post, Thanks so much.

You cannot post to a page. Pages cannot be categorized. They don't have dates. They are static, and meant for information that doesn't change, such as an about page, a lexicon, a set of links.

You have only one dynamic page per blog: that page is dynamic because it changes every time you publish a post. Posts can be categorized. And they have dates.

You can link to a category. For example, if you assigned some published posts to the category "drinks" this link would work:
http://citygirlpr.wordpress.com/category/drinks/

So you can use that linkability to make a custom menu where the tabs on the menu link to your category "pages".

How do I make a post go under a specific page?

For example, I have 4 pages on my blog: food, drinks, fitness and personal. When I write a post, how can I make the post appear on one of these pages only? (Ie. If I write a post on a restaurant, I want it to only appear on the food page, not the home page or any of my other pages). Right now when I write a post, even if I categorize it as of of my pages, I cant visually find it anywhere. The only way I can see it is if I go back to "my posts" and look at it there.
In my mind, the URL should read: citygirlpr.wordpress.com/food/restaurantname. However, when I write posts now they have their own unique URL like this: citygirlpr.wordpress.com/restaurantname. I am so confused!!! help!

Yes, but that is not the same as what many ask about when they want to put a post onto a page. For example, I write about recipes and if I want my readers to see choices of "chicken" "beef" "dessert" then there is no direct way to put my chicken, beef, and dessert recipes onto separate pages. You must use categories (tags, dates, etc) and custom menus to have separate links to the topics.

There is only one dynamic page per blog. The posting page is the one and only page where posts are displayed. It is dynamic because it changes every time there is a new post. But folks can add tabs (items) to the main navigation menu by using categories.

Each post can have many tags and or categories, as well as other archive pages according to dates. Clicking on a tag, cat, or monthly archive will bring up a list of posts assigned to the tag, cat, or date. They have links. So those links can be put into a custom menu for readers to find all of the posts in specific tags or categories or dates.

...if 'lionracer' selects "Posts page" in "Reading Settings", doesn't the page become the place where the posts are published?

That sort of link will show all of the posts (with infinite scrolling) that appear on the one and only dynamic front page. That is the page which appears as the front/home page by default on all wp.com sites.

Folks can set up a static front page as an alternative and then designate a different "page" to display the latest posts.

The jargon is confusing because they are all called "pages" but there are differences among them.

You are a 6 day old WordPress.com blogger. I'd suggest that you work through the tutorial written especially for new folks on this platform:
http://learn.wordpress.com/

Please note that you cannot post to a page. There are ways to provide navigation to categories of posts so your readers can find posts they want to read and so you can organize your blog as you are describing.

As for your question about posting to a page please read this very informative article, including the requisite reading about post categories and the differences between pages and posts:

Among the most common misconceptions is that bloggers fail to understand is
(1) there is only one page we can post to one any blog and
(2) the static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ they create do not automatically update.

Only the dynamic pages like Categories, Tags and Archives created by the software when we publish a post we that we have assigned Categories and Tags too will update automatically update with posts.

By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.

We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-tag-post-format-pages

Here’s a link to a custom menu walk-through > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/11/wordpress-com-custom-menu-walk-through/

There are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and you can read about them here. > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.

Choice 1 static front page
Choice 2 running page for all posts on front page

Which do you choose? It’s one or the other.

If you choose a static front page then you have to create two pages as I said above. After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Front page displays

You cannot post to a page. On a blog you have only one dynamically changing page: each time you make a post, your blog-page changes.

Posts and pages are very different from each other.

Posts are shown in reverse chronological order, newest at the top, older posts below. Posts have dates (which are part of the link to each post here on WordPress.com). Posts can be categorized and/or tagged. They are a log or journal of your activities, thoughts, or interests. Your dynamic blog-page has a lot of search engine optimization because you are adding new posts and categories all the time.

Pages are static. You write information on a page, and that's it. No dates, no categories/tags. For example, you could have a biography or about page. Or have a page like a lexicon or dictionary of terms you use for the subject you write on. Or an index. They do not have much SEO because they stay the same. Yes, you can continue adding to pages, but soon they will be miles long and it will become difficult to find information.

The magic happens when you use a custom menu. The categories (or tags) you apply to each post are links you can use in a custom menu. Want to write about sports and sermons? Make posts about those topics and use the categories "sports" and "sermons." When a reader clicks on the "sports" category, he or she will see all of your posts about sports. You can use those category links in a custom menu: it will appear as if you are posting to different pages but in fact you are just efficiently organizing your blog so readers can find topics of interest.

If you want all of your current posts (which are now on your "reflections" tab of your top navigation menu) to be separated from newer posts you make in future, bulk edit them to add a category like "old posts."

Here is information about the topics I touched on above:
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/

Hello,

I don't recommend you to use pages for your purpose.

Firstly, do you know the difference of a post and a page?

http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

They are a good way to publish information that doesn’t change much, like an About page.

So, pages are to show information that doesn't change much. You say that you want to show posts related to a topic on that topic's page, then you can use Categories.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/

http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

You should create categories with names like your pages, and then make the category archives appear on your homepage.

A category archive shows all the posts in that category but isn't shown on the homepage as default.

When you create all the categories you want, go to Dashboard>Appereance>Menus. In the Menus page, you will see the Categories box on the left side. Choose the categories you want to make "pages" and click Add to Menu.

Hope this solves your problem.
