You cannot upload a zip file. Posterous sends you a .zip file which you need to open to retrieve the files inside. Per the guide at http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-posterous/ you'll need to upload the wordpress_export_1.xml file, not the one you tried to import. I'm trying to upload my blog from Posterous and following the instructions from your help site but everytime I try to upload the xml file it gives me an error. So I am unable to upload. Can you help me

WordPress isn't recognising the .xml file from posterous - it looks like a .xml file and the computer thinks it is one, but when I try and uplaod to wordpress it tells me it's the wrong type of file. This all needs to be done by tromorrow I think - please help!

that is exactly the file I tried to import. I put it in my question. : and yes I followed the directions, read all the support on this subject. but I get an error message in trying to upload for the file: wordpress_export_1.xml file.

I have read and am following the instructions for transferring my posterous xml file. I have chosen the file under tools/import and then I consistently get a message saying it has to be an xml file. which it is.: file name is: wordpress_export_1.xml Please help me I am going crazy. does it matter that the blog was private when I downloaded it? susannadana

Thanks. Upload worked in Chrome, not in IE. Nothing to do with reported XML error. I see now this is a regular problem. I wouldn't have guessed the browser was the cause. Perhaps someone would like to add it to the known bugs list on the Posterous imports guide so beginners like me don't waste people's time?

I have a backup from a small Posterous blog. It looks fine, unzipped and all the files are there. When I try to import <wordpress_export_1.xml> using the tool, WordPress reports "File is not XML". It is. I can edit it and it is clearly well formed XML. The file is 215Kb. Any suggestions?

I have followed the above and used the http://www.7-zip.org. My file I am trying to upload is unzipped and called "wordpress_export_1.xml" (It is 407kb in size).
When I try upload this as an import I get the above error - saying it is not an .xml file.
I will try the other browser you suggest and see if it helps.

It looks as it the staff has managed to upload my page for me which has saved me a lot of bother.
