As of a recent media update, the images must now be resized in your media library first: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-editing/

I generally like the new method, but I'm not seeing the point of displaying the whole damn Media Library in all that space when I'm only trying to add one image. I'd rather have all the various things to fill out for that image all on one screen, without having to scroll down. Right now it's like squeezing the actual functions through a toothpaste tube.

I am so with you on that.

I'm also having problems with the new media library. I used to be able to choose what size photo to insert (thumbnail, medium, large) but now no matter what I choose under "attachment" it inserts only the medium size into the post. I can go into text and manual change the size to large and the dimensions of the image, but that seems like a waste of time to me. Any thoughts?

I also mostly like the new method. It makes adding images to a gallery much easier. But then I usually work in the text editor so I have not had the problem paddysdaughter mentions about the galleries being inserted to the top of a post.

For my work blog, the ability to easily select multiple pictures for a gallery, and to easily have multiple galleries in a post makes it almost a pleasure. Though when it's "work" there is a reason one gets paid.

The galleries at least are less an unfinished "work-in-progress" than they were. Still room for improvement. The little "x" to return to post without an explanation is one example.

Just a comment really about the recent changes to the way one adds pictures to a post - I preferred the old way. It seems that galleries are only added to the beginning of a post, regardless of where the cursor is. This is a change I find most frustrating, as I like to write something and then add the pictures. Is there a way around this please?
