Don't give them your password. Don't make others Admins of your blog. Have a strong password. Have a strong email password, too, because sometimes hackers break into your email then click "forgot my password" and the password link is emailed to your account.

Hi There,

I would like to make the post page of me blog password protected so that only certain people can view it however I want to keep the rest of the blog open and free to view. Can this be done?

I tried moving the post page from "home" to another page and password protecting that, however that didn't work. Any ideas?

If there is no solution to this is there an alternative as the posts are sent by e-mail from the users and is there a way to just password protect posts sent via e-mail?

Plagiarism and your copyright are your responsibilities, and just so you know, if you put something on the internet, it is almost certain someone is going to copy it, repost it as their own or use it in some other illegal way. Welcome to the internet.

The only way to keep this from happening is to NOT put anything on the internet.

These two links should be helpful. By default, all of your original content is covered by an implicit copyright, but it is a good idea to include a copyright notice on your site.

Trying to password-protect a page in my (non blog) web site. When clicking "Password protected" option in the Visibility selection box, no text box to enter password pops up, and clicking OK just sets it back to public. Thanks.

Actually, it's because your computer is storing the password, or the cookie WP gave it once it signed in. Change the computer settings and problem solved.

If you are asking about the blog linked to your username your need to contact WordPress.com Staff. Use the Help button on the top right hand corner of your Admin page to do that please.

i am having a similar problem! i had someone check from another computer but they couldn't see anything until they put in the password! then evey time they open the site they can still see the page open! does anyone know if you can log out of a password protected page?

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently converting a mockup into a wordpress website for a client. One of the pages in the navigation list is called "Students" and it needs to be password protected. Here are the steps I have taken.

Create a new page "Students"
In the "Publish" menu, Visibility > Password protected: "password"
[ Update ]
[ Preview page ]
What I see is a regular page, except the title of the page is changed to "Protected: Students"
The rest of the content is as you would expect for a non-password-protected page.

I am using WordPress 3.3.1. Is this one of those "known issues" that I don't know about? Thanks in advance.

If Safari is the browser you use for working on the site, log out, reset the browser clearing the cookies and cache, restart Safari and then take another look (do not log into wordpress). I think you will find that you are then asked to enter a password.

What is the link to the page?

Do remember that wordpress uses cookies and if you have once visited the page and entered the password then wordpress will remember you and not ask for the password again (until the browser cookies are cleared or the cookie expires). Also note that if you are logged into the wordpress.com account then you will also not see the password field show up (you are the one that set the password so supposedly you would allow yourself to view the material).

I would like to password protect a "Members" section of my website, for students enrolled in a course I am teaching. I initially did it this way"

Pages --> Add New --> Publish --> Visibility --> Password Protected

I added a password and e-mailed it to the students. Easy peasy. EXCEPT that in Safari for Mac, this page is not password protected. Seems OK in IE and Firefox. Have not tested it in Chrome. In Safari for Mac, this page shows up as a regular page, visible to anyone.

The theme I am using is Enterprise 1.0-wpcom by StudioPress. Is this a function of the theme or does this issue affect all WP themes?

It seems to work perfectly fine over here. Can you please try clearing out your cache and cookies? . Please also try another browser to see if that works for you.

I'm trying to post a blog that is password protected, but when I go to click on visibility nothing happens. Is this a temporary problem? I've got the post saved as a draft, but I was hoping to get it posted soon with the password protection. How can I fix this?

Pages can also be Password protected - upper right corner with the Publish button there is

Visibility: Public

just choose "Password Protect" when it opens.

At the moment that's not possible at WordPress.com. There are no restrictions on advertising if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities.

Thanks thesacredpath, Wasn't sure if authors could delete their own posts. My worry was a potential editor (blog in question is a university society with the new president asking for privaleges) deleting posts, so I guess I'll keep him as author until he asks further.
