Hi macmanX :) Thanks for the tip. Last I checked, the WP ios only works on ios4+/5(?) which I'm not willing to put on my older 3Gs (have read too many horror stories @ Apple Support Forums RSS Feed, hogs up older phones, bloats them out, weighs them down, turns them into sluggish bricks, severely increases battery drain, makes old-time fav apps not work [such as Activity Monitor memory sweeper], etc. etc.). Will wait for the future phone that is made for the ios5, iPhone5. A new phone once every 3 years is enough for my budget (no rush to make Apple richer :) & I never was one to "get a new Cadillac every year," lol.

Thanks again!

Thanks sacredpath & yeah, I had thought about that, too (that all Categories might not show up in the Lists unless previously applied to prior posts). Since I had imported most everything from Posterous about two months ago, I was trying to "go back in time" & add new (WP) Categories to all prior posts & therein the snags were encountered.

Going forward will be no problem as I will simply include Category & Tag shortcodes in emails since I do all posting via email anyway.

Thanks again!

@fp2wp, Thanks for the screenshots. One thing that just occurred to me, is that if a category is not assigned to at least one published post, it will not show up in the list on the menu pages since if you put a link to an empty category into your menu, it would return a 404 not found error since there would be nothing to show. All categories should show up though on the edit post page - empty or not.

As @macmanx states, the browser versions for FF and Opera are way old and those could most definitely be the issue to part of this.

WP is very NON-MAC Friendly, evidently. Please make your blog platform more UNIVERSALLY-functional.

Actually, well over 95% of our employees use Macs.

I have tried several browsers (Safari 5; Firefox 4; Opera 9; iCab; etc.) & it's the same on all.

That could very well be your problem. Please verify exactly which version of Safari you're running, as it's likely the most up to date out of those you listed. The latest version is 5.1.5.

Your version of Firefox and Opera are definitely not supported.

The latest version of Firefox is 12 and the latest version of Opera is 11.62. iCab hasn't been updated since July of 2010, so I recommend avoiding that browser.

QUOTE: "WP is very NON-MAC Friendly, evidently. Please make your blog platform more UNIVERSALLY-functional."

I've been using Mac here for over 5 years and although during the first year or so, Safari and wordpress did not get along too well, I've had virtually zero problems since, and lately I have far fewer problems than people using Internet Explorer on Windows. I also have several web clients using Macs with self-hosted wordpress installations (core wordpress functionality the same as here).

If I click the "most used" tab on the categories module in Safari, I get an abbreviated listing of "most used" categories. If I then click "all categories" tab, I get a full listing of all categories used in my site.

Also, Mac's now days do not come with flash installed, but they most certainly can use flash. Apple quit including it partly so that people, if they needed flash, would go directly to Adobe and get the latest version rather than Apple having to constantly keep track of which was the latest version and adding it to their installation process. Flash will eventually die on all platforms, but that day is not here yet.

I would suggest downloading and installing the latest version of flash since there is still a huge flash presence out on the web right now that do not have HTML5 equivalents on their sites.

Hi TimeThief: you missed this paragraph:

QUOTE: "WP is very NON-MAC Friendly, evidently. Please make your blog platform more UNIVERSALLY-functional."

Cookies always on. JavaScript always on. Mac doesn't use Flash (html5 only). Wireless Internet.

None of those are the problem. The list of Categories is confined in a thin-lined "box" which does not scroll down, meaning, only 9-10 Categories/Subcategories show up, period. WP is not MAC-friendly which they have admitted in other posts. Hence the cry for a "Universally-functional" blog platform.

So thanks anyway!

"Most Used" Categories Option/Link does nothing .....

Are you sure you don't have browser issue? I can do everything you list above on all my blogs using Firefox 11 and IE8. These are the troubleshooting steps we take whenever any issues like this arise:
clearing your browser cache and cookies > http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
using the browser with all extensions or add-ons disabled
updating the browser to the latest stable version (not a buggy BETA browser version) http://browsehappy.com/
confirming third party cookies is enabled http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=61416
confirming JavaScript is enabled http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
confirming Flash is updated http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and if required installing the latest version of Flash http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
resetting your router and modem and rebooting your computer
then logging in using the secure https:// log-in see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
trying another browser

If those do not work for you then we need to know
(1) how you are connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com. The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.

(2) exactly which browser and version of it are you using. If you don’t know click here to find out > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/

Under "Edit Post View," the Categories/Choices are CONFINED in a "SMALL Box" which does NOT SHOW ALL Categories/Choices! Grrr. It only shows maybe 9-10 out of my 16 Categories. I NEED to be able to SEE ALL Categories so I can check the pertinent ones for posts.

Why be so stingy with the Categories "Box"? Please make it LONGER so ALL of my measely 16 Categories/Choices will SHOW UP so I can check off whichever Categories I need to apply to each post.

I have tried several browsers (Safari 5; Firefox 4; Opera 9; iCab; etc.) & it's the same on all. Completely Useless!

WP is very NON-MAC Friendly, evidently. Please make your blog platform more UNIVERSALLY-functional.

~~~~~
Other things that don't work:
--Show Options & Help dropdown tabs in upper right (they won't drop down).
--"Most Used" Categories Option/Link does nothing.
--Appearance >> MENUS >> NIGHTMARE! with the socalled Drag/Drop function. Please let us SIMPLY order our Menu BY NUMBERS vs. that horrible Drag/Drop which is a nightmare to use.
--Ditto for the Settings >> Sharing section with non-functional Drag/Drop! How about a SIMPLE LIST WITH CHECKBOXES??!!
