Blogs that contain nothing but reblogs and no original content at all ought to be made private. Report the blog. Go to the blog and on the dropdown menu on the left hand side of your Admin bar click "Report this Content". When the form opens complete it and then click "submit".

Hi Timethief,

I probably missed that long discussion dating back to 2010. Sorry about that. But maybe it is not a bad idea to rekindle the idea of opt in/opt out function for reblogging as now, in 2013 the same problem is still around.

As I know that copy/paste cannot really be detected unless you run into your work on someone else's site by sheer chance, I had decided for a Creative Commons License kind of hoping for decency by most. But as also stated in the 2010 discussion, reblogging makes it sort of 'legal'. And under the CC License I cannot even complain as my name and text are reblogged as well, nothing has been changed.

One post in that same discussion has caught my attention, though:

>>
mark
Staff
Jun 2, 2010, 12:34 PM

Copy/paste has been around forever and there is nothing we can do about that. An opt-out would falsely imply that your content is safe and we cannot say that.
QuickPress has been a feature of WordPress since 2005 and that is very similar. So again that basic functionality has been around since before this site started.
Blogs that are external to wordpress, com and which take content we advise as far as we can about how to get them closed.
Blogs inside wordpress.com that take content either completely or repeatedly from other blogs anywhere get shut.
Blogs that suddenly sprout up here purely to reblog will get looked at. Our stance that blogs should consist of mainly original content does not change. <<

As on this site I am having the problem with I have seen nothing but reblogged stuff and no personal content at all, maybe it can be 'looked at'? His making himself my follower as the only reaction to my request to remove my post does not feel good...

I can give you the URL if you think someone will check this out...

Thanks for the support, Mirimay... :-) Maybe if there's enough of us it will make it worthwhile for WP to look into it and come up with a nice solution? Tick reblogging on or off?

I know about the solution of making your blog private but that's a step too far, I think. I have by now a small but nice group of people that do follow and comment regularly and although we do not shake or change the world, it is a lot of fun. I would not want to lose that...

An addition to my post of yesterday I had not anticipated at all.

After asking politely to remove my post from his blog and also adding a comment to that sense on his site (not approved apparently and not visible), the only reaction I had is that the reblogger has started following my blog - I'm afraid that he will be snatching more stuff the moment I publish again... It is a very strange feeling to see my own post stated on the automatic 'congrats' mail for the new follower as something I should have a look at on his site. This really is not acceptable...

So, on top of the suggestion now a cry for help after all... Is there really no way I can block this person?

Thanks for some reaction and grts

Hi folks,

Just a suggestion I hope may reach the ones who can do something about it :-)

I am probably not the only one getting utterly irritated by rebloggers who do nothing but that, reblog - no personal content at all. It may be publicity for free but it gives me the creeps to end up somewhere that is all the contrary of what I am about, my post squeezed between others that I may or may not agree with in all gradations.

Wouldn't it be possible to add a function to allow or disallow reblogging like in the case of share buttons, pingbacks, trackbacks and stuff so those who do not want to be reblogged have a choice in the matter? The only thing I can do at the moment is request that the reblogger remove my post from his/her site but if they don't react to that, there is nothing I can do...

As I said, it is just an idea... but I sure would appreciate it :-)

Thanks and grts

I could be wrong but I think one of the advantages of the "reblog" is that the traffic is redirected back to you original post and that all the "likes" will also appear on your original post. So actually, in theory, you should end up with even more traffic for that post. The advantage to actually reblogging seems to be simply giving your readers something else to look at that does not originate at your blog, with no other benefits, aside from providing the content for their enjoyment.. Again, I could be wrong, but that is what happened when I tried reblogging once and saw no advantage to it at all, yet seem to benefit from being reblogged.

If you go to the blog that reblogged you, you will see your post excerpted with something like "503 more words" at the bottom and when you click on that, it redirects the reader back to the original post. Not sure if it went that way for you or not.

I have created a new blog from the one I was previously writing for. I have several articles on the old blog that I would like to link to my new one. I have been reblogging my old articles and having them open up in a new window but I want the reader to remember to go back to my new site by adding a link at the end of the reblogged articles (am I making sense??)

I'm wondering if all my Publicize/Publish settings will be alerted/pinged again? There were other authors on the old site and the settings are so that our separate outlets (ie. facebook, twitter, etc) are automatically notified when an article has posted. I don't want to do this since the articles are older and the other site is all but defunct. Are there any suggestions on how to handle this??

I am using the Oxygen Theme for the new blog http://www.chunein.com
The old site uses the Selecta theme (www.tonescientizt.wordpress.com)

I published a post less than an hour ago, and I just received a notification that another blog "reblogged" my post. The site seems to be an aggregator (if that's a word?) of some sort, with little or no original content.

Part of me thinks that hits are hits, but this isn't just a blurb and a link - it's literally my entire post.

I've had other blogs and have a few years of blogging experience under my belt, but I had not encountered this before. Is this an accepted practice? Is it plagiarism? Is it theft?

(I am worried that posting the URL to the offending site might just create traffic for THAT website, but if it will help you answer my question(s), I will post it.)

What I'm saying is that as part of the code for the reblogging function of wordpress.com, it would appear that the wordpress programmers have inserted code which prohibits reformatting.

This is possibly to maintain the formatting of the post which is being reblogged.

The effect of this apparent prohibition on reformatting when reblogging a post is, that the comment (i.e. the post being made in reply) cannot be formatted properly.

When I reblog a post, my comments are, by default, all posted as a single block of text without any lines spaces whatsoever, which means that there are no paragraphs.

When I insert line spaces in visual editing mode, the line spaces I insert are ignored by wordpress.com and are only visible to me while I am in visual editing mode; the line spaces are not visible in viewing mode and so are not visible to the reader.

In order to overcome this problem, I inserted HTML code for the line spacing while in text editing mode.

My conclusion is that the user should not have to do this, and my recommendation is that wordpress.com coders rectify this by keeping line spaces in comments written as part of the reblogging process so that users do not have to manually code them in themselves.

Hm, I'm not seeing anything related to line breaks in the Text editor tab for that reblog.

What you're saying is that you want to insert single-line breaks instead of the default double-line breaks?
