I have created a 2-column WP blog; not yet live. My posts will appear in the left-side column. The right side column is called Recent Popular Posts. There are many WP widgets available for this feature. Most of them, however, seem configured t display (automatically) a given number (x) of the most recent posts. That's not what I want, because it would simply duplicate the x-number of posts my left column. No, what I want is a widget that will allow me to select which of all my posts will appear in my Recent Popular Posts column. For instance, say I create 5 posts, with these titles: One, Two, Three, Four, Five. Say I want Three and Five to appear as the newest posts in my Recent Popular Posts column. OK, so, I need a widget (or plug-in, etc.) that will enable me, say, to check a box on posts Three and Five that causes those posts to appear in Recent Popular Posts. (Note: the widget needs to be customizable so I can choose, say, the title + first line or two of post + thumbnail — rather than having the entire texts of Three and Five appear in Recent Popular Posts.) Later, if I want to remove those posts from Recent Popular Posts, I would be able to simply unselect them, and also able to select other of my posts to go into Recent Popular Posts. Any ideas?

I've just switched to the "Publish" WP.com theme, and I can't find where to switch on an archive page listing the titles of all posts.

When I went looking for it at /archive, or /blog etc, I find that the 404 page has almost exactly what I'm looking for on it! (although it only shows the most recent posts)

How can I create an archive page? I'm sure the previous theme I used ("Crisp") had a page template type called archive. "Publish" doesn't have this as far as I can see, but it would be incredibly frustrating if what I need is only available on the 404 error page!

Any ideas?

thanks,
The only way would be to remove the Recent posts widget, create a custom menu in Appearance > Menus, add the posts you want, add a Custom Menu widget to your sidebar, make it display the custom menu you created, and update the menu manually each time you publish a regular post.

I recently adopted a new theme on my wordpress.com blog (http://akisaokay.wordpress.com) to allow for multiple post formats, and now would like only for Standard format posts to be included in my Recent Posts sidebar widget. While there's no format selection option, It looks like the widget allows for exclusion based on category, so I created a category for non-Standard posts ("Brief") and set the widget to hide posts in that category. And yet, they persist in showing up. When I tried the opposite approach and set it to show posts in every other category, the widget disappeared from the sidebar altogether.

What am I missing here? Any other suggestions?

I have looked all over this site for an answer I can use. That being said there seems to be a lot of solutions, but I am such a novice at this that most of it goes over my head......

I want to add recent posts to my static home page. under the section that says "Upcoming Events" Website in question
Someone on one of the forums suggested using the following code information.:
"The easiest way to do this is adding to your static page a get_posts call.
Here's one example of a minimal Loop of that kind :
<?php
global $post;
$myposts = get_posts('numberposts=5&category=1');
foreach($myposts as $post) :
?>
<?php the_title(); ?>
<?php the_content(); ?>
<?php endforeach; ?>"

[Please use the code buttons when posting code here]

The problem is I dont know where to put this code to show up on my page where I want it.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thank you.

Hi there,

for my wordpress I'm using the Twenty Eleven theme, and in my sidebar only two widgets; 'recent posts' & 'archives'. These two titles are both visible in gray and so are the summarize - dots. But the links to my posts or month I posted in are not visible. When you highlight the page you see them, but that's not how it should be. This also counts for the 'posted on' and 'posted in' by... links at the top and end of ech post. Tried to change font in HTML; didn't work. I don't know how to fix it or where.

Please help! Thanks,

Hi All,

I have a simple list of Recent Posts as permalink in the sidebar of my Blog page. They look fine in my recent Blog page, BUT when I go to second page of my blog, they get change!! By other word , these recent post permalinks are always similar with the posts on that blog page!!! How can I fix that issue? Any idea?

Here is my Code for recent post permalink :
<?php
$temp = $wp_query;
$wp_query= null;
$wp_query = new WP_Query();
$wp_query->query('showposts=5'.'&paged='.$paged);
?>
<?php while ($wp_query->have_posts()) : $wp_query->the_post(); ?>

" rel="bookmark"><?php the_title(); ?>

<?php endwhile; ?>

A shame we can't edit HTML directly like we can CSS, but oh well.

A shame are you kidding? Allowing bloggers to edit templates and themes on a multi-user blogging platform like this one where all blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template is not possible.
