I don't think he's the only one, as several of my long-time readers have had to change their names from their original ones.

What's going on here? Is there any way they can be restored to their original names? It's probably not a big issue in the long run, but several of my readers have been using the same online name for four years and haven't run into trouble until now.

Note that the prompt will still appear but providing an email address and logging in are not required. You can post instructions for your visitors in a text widget if you wish. That's easy to do. You copy and paste this into a text widget:

Readers: Note that the email address and logging in prompts do appear for comments but providing an email address and logging in are not required.

P.S. if you set up the blog for anonymous commenting then do be sure to set up full comment moderation ie. "An administrator must always approve the comment" because anonymous commenting is bound to increase the amount of spam your blog will receive.

The owner of one blog I read suggested I create a fake email account, and that works. Since WordPress has made it impossible for me to eliminate my corrupted Gravatar account, it's unfortunate but the fake email account, so far, is the way to go. It's kind of a pain and it's too bad, but WordPress has made it necessary.

They do not have wordpress accounts, but when they go to make a comment on my blog they are prompted to "sign in". I found the box and unchecked it for allowing only wordpress members to comment - but still they can't comment with just filling in name/email/url. Help?
