I would only like to remove the image uploaded on the front and home page

You can hide the header image on just the home page by using ".home" at the front of a CSS rule.

Here is an example that will hide the header image for just the home page of the Modularity Lite theme:

.home #header-image {
	display: none;
}

Enter that CSS into your Appearance → Themes → Customize → CSS panel to see a live preview.

Do you have any solutions for this without me having to buy an upgrade?

You do need to purchase the Custom Design upgrade in order to apply the change to the front end of your blog.

The only other alternative would be to find a theme that does this automatically, but I don't know of any on WordPress.com that currently display a header image on every page except the home page.

Some time ago I was given the following CSS to hide the 'older posts' button from the bottom of the blog page:

/* Hide older/newer links */
.paging { display: none; }

This worked for a time, but now the button seems to have reappeared.

Can someone let me know whether I have entered the code incorrectly, or whether there's a different CSS for this function?

a) Ignore the warning. The selectors I gave you are the right selectors for Tarski, the warnings aren't WP's, they are opinionated, and they can be wrong (as in this case).

Thesacredpath was one of our most experienced forum volunteers, and he meant the exact same thing I suggested: he didn't tell you to replace your code with his, he told you to add his code. The only difference between his suggestion and mine is that it's better to avoid redundancies. Instead of using this:

#blog-title {
display: none;
}
span#blog-title {
display: none;
}

it's better to use this:

#blog-title, span#blog-title {
display: none;
}

I had asked this question before and someone told me to just add:

span#blog-title {
display: none;
}

which I did and it worked, temporarily, but not anymore. I'm getting the yellow warning sign for that one, too.

I added this code to my custom CSS for the theme Tarski:
#blog-title {
display: none;
}

...because my blog title/name is in my header image.

It removed the blog title (name) from only the home page, but not subsequent pages. At one point, it worked fine but seems to have reverted to showing up on inside pages.

Any ideas?
