You could have a new Post - along the lines of "it's time for my two favorite BBQ recipes" or something like that - then say a few words about why you like the special recipe - then put a link to the original Post -

A good point. I thought it would create a redirect, but it doesn't!

Thanks Tess. I didn't think about it changing the url link and now see the date in the post. I had seen another bloggers post show up multiple times... too many in fact... but it didn't show as a reblog so I thought how can I do this and do it right. Maybe the best way is just as you suggest and to post a second time when necessary but not get carried away.

Changing the date on a post will result in 404 not found errors.

If the recipe has been indexed by search engines, then folks who click on a link there won't find the original post because the date is part of the link. A different date will change the link.

I have posted recipes more than once, but have added different thoughts about the recipe, variations, and so on.
Another alternative would be to make the post sticky for a while (don't make more than one or two posts sticky).
Or you could put notes and links to seasonal recipes in your sidebar.

You could edit the date of the original post to make it current and bring it to the top of your posts page.

I want to repost a recipe seasonally... its barbeque season and don't want to reblog my own post since it shows up as a reblog from myself. how is it best to do this occasionally and not have the same recipe on the blog twice?

When we follow any blog we follow the URL so if the URL is gone then so is our subscription.

Thanks! That's what I needed to hear. You know how one can justify just about anything to make themselves feel better? But sometimes you just need to be told, to stop it and move on!

I do not recommend copying the old posts and deleting them. You will simply be creating more broken links and a bigger screwed up mess for the search spiders to work through. You have to wait this out and keep publishing new content, and that's all there is to this.

Yes, I am painfully aware that all the links are broken.

I didn't have an understanding of how search engines worked, but that makes perfect sense. I actually get quite a bit of traffic from search engines and saw my referral #s drop the second I made that mistake.

Will the SERPs ever show the new link first? Eventually? Even if it's in months? It might be worth the days work for me to copy all my posts if so.

That won't change the fact that (1) beacsue you did not purchase a site redirect all the broken URLs to the indexed original content will be in Google's cache and Bing's cache for at least 3 - 6 months. (2) As they will still be in the SERPs they will outrank the new content under the new URLs. (P.S. Some other search engines never clear their caches at all.) (3) Also note that it takes time and the frequent publication of fresh unique content that cannot be found elsewhere on the internet in the new blog to get search engine attention. http://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/

Recently, stupidly, I changed my URL from haleykrueger.wordpress.com to homespunhaley.wordpress.com without referring the traffic. Well crap, but I have to live with it.

So this is what I'm trying to problem solve. I thought if I copied old posts, reposted them as new and deleted the old ones, that at least my search engine traffic would pick back up.

I made my most recent post sticky, so my regular visitors weren't too confused and tried it out. When I use Google to search for the posts, I still only see an old link. Where is the updated link? Does it just take to register with search engines? Does this not even work?

I'd like to re-post an old entry that I created before on my blog. Is there an "official" way to do this on WordPress.com? It seems that I can edit my post, but that won't make it pop to the top as the most recent post. I know that I can copy/paste into a new post, but that seems a little rudimentary.

I understand. But you suggested disabling my add-ons one at a time to see which may be the culprit. If that test works, then I assume it means the only way to avoid these glitches in future is to do without that add-on?

Or does it simply mean that I should temporarily disable the offending add-on only for as long as it takes to create a new post?

Just to be clear about this i do not believe the code you posted above is being supplied by your blog ie. by WordPress.com. I believe it's coming from a browser add-on or a browser extension, or whatever you are typing or copying and pasting from elsewhere into the editor on your blog.

Thanks. I sure hope I don't have to permanently disable Adblock or needed flash players, etc., just to prevent this problem on my free blog.

Adblock and plug-ins are add-ons. As for whether they'll stay gone, I don't know. Test it.

Once I spot the codes and delete them (for now . . . rather than looking into my add-ons), will they stay gone?

FYI, I seem to have only one add-on (if indeed it is one): The default Firefox color scheme.

Happens a lot. You've got a browser extension of some kind that is injecting that code into your posts. Disable all browser add-ons, then add them back one by one to see which one is responsible.

Occasionally, code is appearing in my posts, e.g. see below. I edit and delete it when I see it. Why is it happening?

Edit the timestamp: go to Edit the post, then on the right-hand side you'll find an option to schedule a post or change the timestamp.

I have some posts that are "timeless" (purely entertaining, not topical).

I'd like to change the order of a couple of posts. I can't think of any way to do that without deleting/saving and then reposting. Can that be done?
