I've been having a problem for the last month or so. I'm resizing images via the slider on the upload images section, however the images don't resize and are too large. Here's a prime example with the top image http://journeysinclassicfilm.com/2013/03/22/night-of-the-living-dead-1968/ . Would love to find a way to fix this as there's several pictures on my site that need to be shrunk and this started happening in the last month.

Here's an interesting anomaly. Yesterday, I changed three of my blogs to the Blaskan theme. All three blogs are set to have sidebars with the same widget sets that I have edited for continuity across the blogs.

The http://BolesBlues.com "Recent Comments/Shared Thoughts" sidebar widget is not updating the right commenter Avatar size. It is stuck at its current size no matter what size I choose and save while editing the widget. I have tried changing the theme and changing it back and also removing and editing the Widget to no righting effect.

My http://GoInside.com and http://UrbanSemiotic.com blogs are set up with the same widget sets and there's no problem with the commenter Avatars getting resized.

On, perhaps, a similar note... in the Rich Text/Visual post editor for the Boles Blues blog, all the hotlinks are BRIGHT BLUE -- even if they have been visited -- while Go Inside and Urban Semiotic and the other blogs all reflect a "visited" status for previously viewed links.

Can a staff member do some sort of backend whammying to reset the Boles Blues Blaskan theme for me to correct these problems? Everything seems to be in a cached saved state for the theme and widgets no matter if I change/delete themes and widgets.

Thank you!

Hello

I'd like to request a WP plugin which handles upload and interactive cropping of images, much like:
http://www.webmotionuk.co.uk/jquery-image-upload-and-crop-for-php/

Ultimately am wanting (via a WP plugin) to be able to build pages with an arbitrary number of front-end image upload slots, with interactive image cropping functionality to ensure that the final images conform to a predefined required aspect ratio (but of course maintain highest possible quality).

(The resulting appropriately cropped images will then be further processed by an automated software - which requires each image to be of a certain aspect ratio).

@jmnartsy:
You're welcome.
The way you use to insert the image should make no difference: you'll get your "full-sized image as uploaded" as long as it's not wider than the allowed maximum.

@helar:
a) You're using a 'normal' theme. Jmnartsy's question was specifically about Duotone, which works unlike any other wordpress.com theme.
b) If you have difficulties resizing an image, the surefire way is to delete the regular width and height commands and add the desired width in the style attribute. For example, you turn this:

<img class="ETC" alt="ETC" src="IMAGE URL" height="WHATEVER" width="WHATEVER" />

to this:

<img style="width:394px;" class="ETC" alt="ETC" src="IMAGE URL" />

Thank you, justpi, for your input.

Since my posting, I have done some testing and have decided that, for any new posts I wish to prepare from now on, I will upload the image first and save it to the Media Library. Then, when I am ready to prepare a Draft post, I will press Add Media above the post editor and find the uploaded image and just insert into the post. That way, I get my full-sized image as uploaded.

This is not the process I have used prior to now. Live and learn, eh! :O)

Regarding the image widths in the built in WordPress.com slideshow, there isn't a way that I know of to make the images larger and even if you could, the feature does set the image size with a hard coded number so if you could figure out a way to change the image sizes using CSS, it would compromise the quality of images.

• The post editor is a generic tool: it has a fixed width, and it works the same no matter what the theme (with some exceptions) - it does not necessarily reflect what you'll actually see on the published post.
• The "?w=NNN" is added to image URLs to limit images to the maximum width a theme allows. This happens in all themes (with different numbers, of course) and it's not new. It affects images only if they are wider than the maximum: the URL of a 800px wide image with "?w=840" at the end produces a 800px image.
• Maximum width in Duotone is 840px for landscape-shaped images and 560px for portrait-shaped or square images. Image resizing never worked in Monotone and Duotone: if the original file is narrower than the allowed maximum, it displays at original size no matter what you do with the coding; if it's wider than the allowed maximum, it's downsized to that maximum, again no matter what you do with the coding. Check note 4 here (and note that my post dates from 2009):
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/maximum-image-width/

My blog's theme's fullest width is 800px. Usually that is the size of the images I upload from my PC, unless they are naturally smaller than that or sometimes larger. The system would automatically select a size to insert into the post. Then I would resize it within Text mode, ie change the width, height and width, and so on. The changed size is reflected in Visual mode and is obvious. Sweet! I didn't need to preview the post as I was confident it would look as per the changes I'd made (apart from the fact, I can no longer preview my posts anyway....but that is another matter!).

I currently have a published post which looks slightly fuzzy anyway, as it is a 16:9 aspect ratio image prepared in Picasa as a collage. I had decided to reduce the size to crisp it up a little, and when I was within the Edit Post >Text mode, I changed its proportion to 648x365px (the original being 800x450px). The change was obvious within the Edit Post mode. However, when checking it on the blog itself, it still looks the same and, therefore, I decided to right-click the image and check on Properties to see what it said. Here is the info: http://jmnartsy.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/1-maxtor-origs11.jpg?w=840.

Can I presume the w=840 refers to the width of the image, and has been added by the WP system, somehow, as the original link detail ends at .jpg. Yet, part of the Properties info. indicated that the image dimension was 800x450px!

Why has my resizing not been applied?

The image I refer to above is the second image, which I had to upload again from my PC and insert into the post. Because I had gone back into Edit Image mode within the Media Library and tried the new Scale Image process, but once I pressed the Scale button, it produced a very tiny image-holder with a red x inside it; No Image! L>O>L!!! At that point, I wasn't aware of the Undo process (I've just read about it within these Forums).

Does this mean, now, that I will no longer be able to change image sizes after upload?

Does this mean, then, that I will have to be definitely certain of the size I want my images to be, before uploading, and resize them to that size on my PC, as the Scale Image function does not work?

I checked http://leblogpurple.com/ just now and the font looks good right now, so you may have already figured this out. There are built in tools for changing the font size on the Appearance → Custom Design → Fonts page, so that is the first place to check.

Beyond that, I would only recommend adding custom CSS if the fonts page doesn't cover what you need or if you want to change something very specific.

Hi!

I would really like to make the grey background on my slideshows invisible? Or if that isn't possible to change it's size. As you can see on my site it stretches across the page unnecessarily.

Also whilst I'm asking is there a way to make the images on my slideshows larger? I've seen the option when you insert the widget but I was wondering if there was a way to enlarge them further on CSS?

Many Thanks

Hi,
I would like to widen my theme pages. I have contempt theme and i am happy with the layout, but would just like to have the pages wider to fill up more of the webpage. If i purchase CSS upgrade can i do this? And how?
Also, i assume this will affect my header image. If i have to resize it how do i know what size it will need to be? Previous image was 750x180px.
Many thanks, Damien

Hi,

CSS is new to me and I tried to change a few things on my blog but I must have made something wrong. My theme is Balaskan and I changed the font and have used Arabic typesetting, which is a small font. I don't remember but I must have changed the size of the font as well some time ago. It worked well but now when you first come on the blog, the font is really small, almost impossible to read. Then when I click on anything, the normal size comes back and the page is fine! What can I do? Is there a part of the CSS stylesheet devoted to that??? Help :( !!!

I'm having trouble with the css coding for the forever theme. I can't seem to figure out where to make the adjustments. I have two columns, and I'd like the left column to be larger - my pictures are only 550pixels wide, but Id like ones that are 540pixels to fit.

Thanks so much!
