I was working on my ' What i've been upto' page and through a slip of hand or something all of the writing and photos I posted at around 12noon have disappeared. I cant see how to retrieve them. They are not to be found in the trash.

Can someone please help me get back to just before the page went blank. (last change was bringing in a photo of a paramedic)

Unfortunately, Trashed articles cannot be edited. You would have to restore it to edit it.

Thanks for the confirmation that everything is working as is macmanx. I thought maybe there was a freshness time limit between the time a post is published and edited if it fired as a new RSS event or not. I often find typos on new articles, and I fix them quickly, and no RSS event is ticked. However, if I find a typo on an old article -- say two-six years old -- then an RSS update always fires.

As for the Trash -- Good point! SMILE! After posting my query, I also thought I could edit the Trashed post before un-Trashing to turn off the auto-Publicize to avoid notices on restored Trashed articles being fed as new, though I'm not sure if we can edit Trashed articles.

Not exactly. We mark it as "updated" in the feed, and it's entirely up to the feed reader to choose how to handle that. Some, like Google Reader, do nothing and the post remains "read" and folks aren't notified of an update. Others do display it as updated, and some display it as new.

When you Trash an article, you remove all elements of its existence except the content. When you restore it, it's considered a new post, which is why Publicize re-sends it. Just don't Trash any posts you want to keep. ;)

Hi. I need help with a big, but unusual problem.

Somehow, the MySQL-database seems to have lost my passwords. I only get 'Error connecting to database' (in German, but that's the message).

I do have a full back-up of all files that were on my server.

Does anyone have / know a way to recover the postings (and especially the database data) from the back-up in a way hat I could import it into a new installation of WordPress (if I can do that, I'd be fine with deleting the whole installation and re-installing everything...)

You may be able to recover an earlier post revision. Go to Pages > All Pages, hover over the title of the post, click Edit and check the Page Revisions module for previous saved versions of the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-revisions/

If you're not seeing the Revisions module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right corner of your Admin page) http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ to activate it. Then select the post and page modules to include them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules Then you ought to be able to go here > Dashboard > All Pages > Pages and locate the page and recover it from page revisions.

If you cannot locate the page and restoring a page revision, and it's not in your Trash folder http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/ then you will not be able to recover it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

Id the widget is not found in your Inactive Widgets box with the data intact in it then you will have to create a new one.

I meant to remove the songs from the secondary sidebar and deleted the whole widget. Now I can't drag that widget back to the sidebar because it's erased?

Hi there - I see no posts in your trash. The trash is automatically emptied every 30 days, so if your posts were made before that, they'll no longer appear. If they were ever published and had been indexed by Google, you could try searching for them in Google and viewing them via Google's cached copy, from which you could copy-paste the content.

There is no fix. You're going to have to reupload and reinsert all those images. A word of advice: take the extra time to optimize them first and you wont' run into this. I've been here six and a half years and have only used less than 10% of my space, while posting at least one image per day.

I think I did a really stupid thing. Because I had been uploading image with large files, my media library was getting full. So I thought, maybe I could delete the upload and free up some space. But I didn't know if it would effect my postings images. So I tried one and it looked it like didn't so I deleted all the images only to find out that it did. I have over 124 posting with images galore. I need to restore, but I am afraid that I can't. Is there a fix that I can do? It has only been two days since I did it. I hate to think that I have to go back and recreate them!

Help!!

Be aware that deleted blog URLs here are not recycled.

Note that upgrading will not resolve your issue. When we register a username account here the email address we provide becomes our unique identifier. When we are logged into WordPress.com and register a blog it's registered to that username account we are logged in under and to the email address which is our unique identifier. We can register as many blogs as we wish and provided we are using the same username account then all the blogs will be registered under it and the associated email account. We can change our "display name" but that display name will appear on all blogs registered under the same username account.
