Please help me determine the correct code for my drop-down search form. I want to be able to populate from a drop down: Categories – Sub Categories - Sub Sub Categories – Sub Sub Sub Categories. Here is how the form is displaying: Select a state – Select a County – Select a City – Select a Zip Code.

Also, When I select the first category It immediately display results; is there a way to stop the results from displaying after selecting but only populate the next sub category, and add a submit button to the bottom of the form that will display results?

I’m a newbie and I don’t mind paying a fee for your time. Thanks a lot for your help,

Hello! Hiding the search button in Twenty Ten via Custom Design Upgrade is pretty easy. The following code will work:

<br />
#searchsubmit {<br />
    display: none;<br />
}<br />

You can then make the search box a bit wider with:

<br />
#primary #s {<br />
    width: 200px;<br />
}<br />

It is not really possible to include the text inside the search box the correct way though.

I've been going back and forth between several themes, and I think I may be going with Twenty Ten. However, Twenty Twelve has a much cooler search format, w/ hitting the return key instead of having a "Search" button.

I see that I can lengthen the search box (in Twenty Ten), and force the button onto a second line, by modifying the CSS ".widget_search #s" - Increasing the search box from 60%. I also see that the search box works without using the "Search" button by simply hitting the return key.

What I would like to do is get rid of the button in Twenty Ten, and possibly include the word "Search" in the empty box. I tried using a text widget to make my own search form, but then discovered that
<from>
tags are among the forbidden tags, and so that of course didn't work.

Is there a workaround? A method of eliminating (or hiding) the button in the Twenty Ten search form, and possibly including my own default text (e.g. "Search") in the empty search box?

Note: I don't have the "Custom Design" upgrade yet, but I may be upgrading to change out the fonts, so if there is a remedy that involves modifying the CSS file that would be perfect.

Hi there,

I'm using the Search Form Widget since I hid my blog title and tagline with CSS, which hid the built in twenty eleven search form at the top. But, here's the problem. Regardless of whether I put the search form in the sidebar or the footer, the only thing that shows up is the Widget title (search) with no search form. Any ideas?

Hi, at the moment my blog search box returns a partial match search. For instance, if I search for the whole word rune, lots of posts will return containing the word Brunetta. What I would like instead is to see returned only the posts containing the whole word rune. On the top, it would be nice to have at the top of the results, the posts containing the highest number of times the word rune, instead the results look quite flat and sorted by date (the latest come first). Any help? I haven't used any tag yet, and I might start if this is the only to fix the problem. Thanks Nicoletta

I'm using the Bluebox theme on WP 2.5.1. All is good except the search box. It puts the input box on one line and the Search button on the next which causes widget problems. I opened up searchform.php and changed "Search" to "Go" as the button value but that doesn't change it. On the site after multiple refreshes on several computers, it still says "Search." I tried giving the search box a width, nothing. Has the format of the search form moved out of the template area in 2.5.1 and if so, where can I find it?

If there are more 'label' tags in your blog, your code will render them invisible. However, there's a 'hidden' class used in the "Search for:" label. So, I'd suggest you define/modify the 'hidden' class like so:

lable.hidden {display: none;}

In at least some of the themes, new text has been added to the sidebar search form -- "Search for:" In the Freshy theme, it results in an aesthetic disaster, displacing the button from the form. I was able to remove it with
label {display:none;}
and the same trick worked at another site I administer that uses Andreas04 (where it wasn't so offensive, but still seemed superfluous). I'll leave it to the CSS experts to advise whether this fix is a good idea or not.
