You can make the front page of your site a static front page and then put a carousel into that for images, but if the theme does not have a post slider built in, you cannot add one via CSS. CSS is a styling document used by the browser to style and place existing elements of a web page. It cannot be used to add functionality.

I might suggest looking for a theme you like that has a post slider.

I tried your advice - it didn't fix the problem, but it was helpful in giving me some methods on working with WordPress. The theme has two templates - the default one with the right sidebar and another one without it. So I also tried toggling back and forth using the same type of method you suggested for the XHTML. Appreciate your help!

Not being able to see your site, since it is private, I will have to guess that this is caused by an HTML error somewhere in a post.

Go to settings > writing and check "WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically" and save. Now open your latest post, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it and then click update and check your site again. If all is well, you are golden. If not, open the previous post and do the same thing. Continue with this till you find the post with the error. The change at settings > writing will get WordPress to automatically correct any HTML errors in your posts.

If that doesn't work, we'll have to be able to see your site, so you will have to make it public for a short time so we can look.

Thanks. Currently the overall width of the theme you are using is set for a maximum of 980px and that is about the maximum width for a 1024px wide display resolution, and there are still a good number of people using that resolution.

The theme you are using is a responsive design which means that it adjusts to the width of the screen you are viewing it on (with the max set at 980px). If you widen and narrow your browser window you will see how the responsive theme reacts to different display widths.

For the easiest reading, it is best to keep content widths no wider than about 600px.

You can set things a bit wider if you wish, but keep in mind the width of the textual content. This will widen the maximum content width by 100px.

.site-main, .site-footer {
max-width: 1080px;
}

.content-area {
max-width: 830px;
}

.entry-header, .search .page .entry-header, .entry-content, .entry-summary, .single div.entry-meta {
max-width: 720px;
width: 100%;

Hi laxchair, I'm wondering how long you were using the theme before the sidebar showed up at the bottom? I am also having this issue; I have gone through nearly every post, widget, and page and there does not appear to be any issue with HTML coding or image sizing (as I removed all widgets, and slowly added them back one-by-one and problem remained). However, I've been using my current them for nearly 2 years, and this issue has never happened before. Thought I would check to see the length of time you were using yours. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried a lot of things (changing the size of the graphic, browser window size, eliminating elements from the sidebar, etc) and nothing helped. I switched to a different template and the problem was solved. Everything appears as expected in every browser I've used to view the site.

So it seems the problem was with the template itself (Silesia). If anyone else has formatting problems using Silesia, I'd suggest trying another template to see if that resolves the issues.

Again, thanks for the help.
