@marqete: What you're looking for is theme-dependent (retro-Fitted won't do).
a) Some of the newer themes display thumbnails on the main page if you set a featured image to each post. You can read about all themes here:

@timethief

i actually have the same problem. i also would like my blog posts to have an image thumbnail on the home page. instead, what is visible is only the post title with the text preview, but no image is previewed in the form of image thumbnail.

the image can obviously be seen once you actually click on the post title. but that is not what is desired. i would like a catalogue like schema where users can see image thumbnails next to post titles on the home page. i'm currently using the retro-fitted theme.

i have checked everywhere and it seems this nowadays required feature is buried somewhere deep in the settings or worse yet, is non-existent. i would like to provide a link to my blog but i'm building it and cannot really show it off to everyone. would you be able to help me out if i share the link with you?

@thespecialforces - if you managed to find out how to do this, do let me know please. you'll save a comrade's skin...
regards,

Hi,

I'm fairly new to wordpress so please excuse my cludgy terminology and general newbieness.

When I insert a picture into a post, I'm given different options to set the size (either scaling it down by a percentage as low as 60%, or configuring pixel lengths and widths). This size seems to apply to the picture both when displayed with the post on the home page and also when it is displayed after a user clicks through the home page into the post's own page.

I would like to use the scaling to show a smaller version of the picture on the home page to enable easier scrolling through topics, but want to have the option to show the full-sized picture on the post's page. Is this possible? Or should I instead look to add a link on the post's own page to "view larger" or something of the sort?

Your help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Friends,

I've just come over from blogger and am struggling with putting images in my posts. I have resized the photos to what should be a good fit, uploaded them, selected the 100% and the full size options, and then inserted them into the post. In the editor the images appear correctly but when published are appearing as thumbnails.

In addition, I'm using the Triton Lite theme, which has a featured image option for posts. The images I select as the featured image are appearing distorted and blocky despite all my attempts to repair.

Your blog is private and helping you will be hindered by that. Staff can view your blog but we Volunteers cannot. Does this help?

AutoFocus’ prominent single post featured images, which when set manually are placed front and center, above your post’s title and content. The maximum width of single post featured images is 800.

AutoFocus responds to not only single image posts but also full galleries. If you would prefer to forego a large featured image above your post content and instead showcase an entire set of photos then simply insert a gallery into your post without manually setting a featured image. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/autofocus/

Main page and archive pages on Autofocus don't rely on featured images. Featured images have to be set manually to each post. Each post on the main page and on category/archive pages will display a regularly inserted image (provided the image had been uploaded via the Add Media button of that post). The only difference is when you view a single complete post: regular image shows below the post title, max width 590px, featured image shows above the post title, max width 800px. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/autofocus-front-page-question-featured-image-conversion?replies=3#post-768789

I posted my question at the same time as you added your blog's address. Thank you.

Except for a very few themes, the visual editor may not look exactly the same way as your post once it is published. One thing I notice right away is that you are posting images that are aligned to the left or to the right, which is a problem because the pictures are wide. The easiest way is to fix this, in my opinion, is to choose "Alignment: None" when inserting the images.

In regards to borders, see if this helps:
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/10/14/borders-pt-1/

Also, CSS is theme specific. If you change themes, before changing you have to remove everything from the CSS edit window and save the stylesheet (with nothing in it) so it returns to the standard then you can switch themes. You then have to do any changes you want on the new theme on the CSS for that theme.

So, I just signed up for the Custom Design feature, and originally was using the Bueno theme. When I changed the Font using TypeKit, the sizing and position of the sections of my blog went haywire. I tried simply changing the theme (now I'm using Oulipo,) and the same issue persists. Below is a screen shot of what it's looking like:

Can anyone please help me?? I'm a noob at this. Thanks in advance.
