No, I'm afraid it doesn't, but thanks for the response.

I think this only works if you (ie: the user) have Skype on your PC, and are using the Skype plug-in in your browser.

Also, no number - just an ID.

I was hoping that perhaps Skype support might be added via a shortcode?

Hmmm. If you have an actual number, not just an ID, skype automatically makes that clickable if you're signed in. Does that help?

Hi there,

I don't suppose WordPress.com has support for Skype URIs?

I would like to add a link on my site for visitors to call me on Skype. This would be a simple hyperlink, like this:

Call me on Skype

This places a Skype call if Skype is installed on the users computer. It works really well on smartphones and tablets with the Skype app installed.

But... when I try to add this, the WordPress editor strips out the skype: bit, and I end up with a non-functioning hyperlink.

BTW, just to be clear: I am not talking about Skype buttons, which require a snippet of Javascript. I understand that 3rd party scripts aren't allowed on WP.com.

How can I remove the skype logo & blue text from phone number? It's very hard to read. I just want the number to appear as normal black text. It does not show in the editing window, but automatically is changed to the skype thing when published. Anyone know how to do this?

Hello all, I'm fairly new to blogging and am learning as I go. I recently started to update a blog with a couple of new entrys and some fine tuning. I notice that two of my entry's have a Skype link where the date should be. I don't think I added this feature and I've been looking everywhere in WordPress to try to remove this. Hmmmm. Thanks for letting me know. I don't even get a "comment is awaiting moderation" note so I'm glad that the comment at least went somewhere. There are about a dozen or so other blogs where my recent comments that "disappeared" may also be in the spam folder.

just for the record, there's no such protocol on the web as 'skype:'. this malarkey will work only if MS IE ActiveX or Mozilla FF extention are installed (Skype toolbar).

guess, it's also probably kinda against of Automattic's ToS, as it drives [unwanted] traffic to the Skype Ltd. website, whose service is stipulated by dowloading their proprietary client (of their proprietary closed protocol) and creating an account for those blog visitors who are not the Skype Ltd. customers yet.

Try placing the code into a forum post within backticks. That's the key above the tab key and to the left of the '1' key on a standard pc keyboard.

I posted a comment to the IDEAS forum yesterday, lamenting the fact that without wordpress support for either javascript or html using a "callto" URL, ie: 
YOUR.SKYPE.NAME 
within a widget, it was not possible to place a Skype button on your wordpress blog.

Well, I think I solved the problem. I placed a text widget on my blog that redirects you to a page on another hosting service, in this case FREEWEBS, but any host or website that supports javascript will work. On the freewebs page, I placed the Skype javascript needed for a "CALL ME" button that will show my current Skype status and which will launch Skype and place a call to me (assuming I'm online). The only functionality it lacks is that the Skype button on my blog can't show my current Skype status. You do, however, see my status on the redirection page.

i know, js was indeed stripped as i wrote

i get it, i tried inserting the 'callto:\\' links both in a text widget, both in a blog article. The result is always the same, the WP platform cut the protocol part resulting the HREF tag pointing at '\\whatever'.

But i still don't get what this has to do with WP host security, since the protocol is simply passed to MY browser wich WARN me that that link is calling an application on MY machine, not on the host where WP host my blog, and this happens only if that protocol is registerd on MY machine by the external application.

I'm just curious, maybe i'm not enough malicious (or on the other hand enoug ignorant :P) to see the possible exploits. I also noticed some forum platform (eg. http://www.simplemachines.org/) doesn't recognize the 'callto://' protocol in a link i tried to post,resulting in adding 'http://' just in front of the link.

Actually in this case it's because skype and callme are being stripped. They're not XML recognized tags and staff has stated that they won't be supported.

Fraid not. Javascripts are still removed from input for security concerns. If you really need Skype, I would suggest getting a paid host.

I still getting problems.
When i get the code to insert from skype for the buttons i get a code...

So, i ofc strip out the js part and keep the 'img' and 'src' tags in the code.

For the 'img' tag there is no problem, but even if i switch the href from 'href="skype:MyAccountName?call"'(given in skype website) to
'href="callto://MyAccountName"' (as suggested here)
once i update i get this code : 'href="//MyAccountName"'

I can't seem to get my Skype button to work, it doesn't accept the code and keeps on adding the "http://lasernet.xxxxxx.com" prefix.

Here's the code.

I believe I may have found the answer - using tips from some of the earlier comments I started playing with the syntax and protocol we are trying to put in a link.

(I'm using skype v2.5)
1.In skype, under options, in the Advanced section tick Associate Skype with callto: links.

2.Type the word press link like this
callto://skypename

3.save and get ready for all the calls !

As for the original thing. What skype is doing in the URL isn't Javascript but calling a "skype protocol" address using a standard URI. If it's stripped by WordPress it's a bug.

In an url anything that is before a ":" is a protocol (as in http: <- protocol address -> //www.wordpress.com or ftp: etc.)

Anyways if we have some restricted way of getting in scripts of embed flash file , it would open up lot of doors (of course both good and bad) ... Hence will wait until we can control the bad :)

Hello all.

When I try to access the main page of my blog http://boltzmann.wordpress.com , it redirects to skype.weeworld.com which is very strange as I have posted about no such thing on the blog itself.

Even when accepting the dodgy security certificate, it won't even load the site or the blog dashboard. This happens in both IE and Opera on this computer.

EDIT:

This is an unnamed IP address. Very dubious!
Has it been hacked? I want my blog back!!
