Hi. I'm getting bad slowdown in the Dashboard when using Chrome. Specifically moving over a link causes the browser to lag when a statistics canvas is on the screen. I suspect this is down to Chrome, but I mention it in case there's a workaround for WordPress.

Here's all I have:

The problem is that when I move the mouse over a link, the mouse pauses by a fraction of a second. So running the cursor over the links in the main left-hand dashboard menu makes it look like I'm watching a low-framerate webcast - slow and jerky.

The problem only occurs when a stats graph is on the screen (e.g. the visitor stats on the dashboard home, or the main site stats graph).

It only occurs with links - when the mouse is over text areas (or the bars of the graphs themselves) it behaves fine. The links under the main stats graph ('views today' and 'busiest day') do trigger the slowdown.

The problem goes away if I reduce the size of the browser window and scroll the page so the charts are not visible.

It also goes away if I use the inspector in Chrome to delete the canvas nodes that contain the graphs.

Turning off all Chrome extensions has no effect on the problem.

If I enable the Web Developer Toolbar extension and disable CSS, the problem remains - I think the canvas is still being rendered but isn't visible, because shrinking the view area makes the problem go away, as abobe).

If I disable Javascript, the problem goes away (the graphs don't get rendered).

Firefox on the same machine doesn't have the problem.

My version of Chrome is 23.0.1271.64 (Official Build 165188) m.

Here are the reports from chrome://gpu - I'm unable to do anything about the drivers myself, as it's a work machine. But as I say, Firefox (16.0.2) is fine:

Graphics Feature Status
Flash Stage3D: Unavailable. Hardware acceleration unavailable
Problems Detected
Intel drivers older than 14.42.7.5294 on Windows XP are possibly unreliable.: 74212
Disable 3D (but not Stage3D) in Flash on XP: 134885
Accelerated 2D canvas is unavailable: either disabled at the command line or not supported by the current system.

If there's anything I can try (as a non-administrator) to fix this, I'll have a go and report back. I haven't noticed any similar lag on other sites while using Chrome - for example sites listed on http://www.canvasdemos.com seem to behave fine.

Hope that's enough info - if there's anything else I can supply, let me know.

Thanks.

Have you done a virus and malware scan on your system lately? It might be a good idea to do one just to make sure there aren't any of the sneaky buggers living on your system.

I would strongly suggest upgrading to a later version of Firefox, which is right now at version 7.0.1.

Also, log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies and try again.

Also #2, have you tried a different browser to see if it is related only to Firefox?

I'm experiencing a major slowdown during post editing on my two WP.com blogs: bonkowski.wordpress.com and blog.polishwineguide.com.
Using a Windows XP netbook and Firefox 3.6, a few weeks ago I noticed a considerable slowdown when editing post in browser window. There appears to be background activity all the time, making the interface react painfully slow. Formatting text, adding images, update drafts is really almost unbearable. A 500-word post can take over an hour to process properly because how slow it all is happening.
On the bottom left corner of the FF window there are a few processes showing up, including a mysterious log.olark.com which appears to be the main culprit. From what I gathered Olark is a plugin for live chatting with readers. But I don't have (nor intend to) have any live chat or help for readers. How to switch that thing off? I don't need that plugin at all.
Any help is appreciated.

I'm having a lot of trouble posting articles and uploading images. There are interminable wait periods between the time I hit the Submit button and ANYTHING happens. I can usually get the article posted, but only after multiple attempts. But the photos -- I can't even get them up to the Media Library. Watching the modem and router lights, the lights dance when I hit submit. After that, even though I am told the computer is "transferring from WordPress.com" or "waiting for WordPress.com," the modem lights say otherwise, nothing happens, and eventually it times out. Takes me to a white screen and a message of "Done." If I hit "Refresh," there is another very long wait before I see a white screen or it finally decides to show me the site again. I'm FRUSTRATED!!!

Using an XP system with Firefox 3.5.4. Have blogged here regularly for about a year with no problems. This slow down started, for me, about a month ago. Have you put measures in place to encourage us to use PicApp and _discourage_ us from uploading pictures? I'm not too happy with PicApp yet because I can't check the page layout during the editing process because I can't SEE it. Just the code.

Take it easy everyone! I am not sure how it is supposed to sound, but it sounded correct to me. It has been shown quite often on the net that if you record something with an audio encoding less than 44 or 48 mhz or whatever it is, it may not play correctly in a flash player like the audio player here at wp.com. Maybe try that if it is your recording?

I'm wondering if that would be an issue with WordPress's bandwidth (although they say bandwidth is never an issue). But I'm just speculating here. Unfortunately, I don't know any sound gurus who could weigh in on this. It might also be an encoding issue, as I know that older encoding can be speeded up and chipmunk-like. Maybe whatever encoding you're using isn't aligning perfectly with the audioplayer either. Can you try switching it around and doing a test post?

This is the strangest thing, and I just wondered if anyone else has experienced it. When I insert an MP3 file into a post, I usually do it two ways - by linking the name of the song directly to the file, and then at the bottom entering the WP audio player code. The result is that the song plays streaming audio either way, but here's the funny part - the WP audio player version is noticibly slower. I'm not talking about download time - I have broadband and that's not a problem - I'm talking about how the song actually plays. It's like a record player with your finger on it, slowing it down a little. Anyone???
