If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.

If you are, please do these four things:

1. Try clearing your browser's cache and cookies: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/

3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you're using if you're still having trouble.

Update: some categories can be updated, only some seem to give me errors.

When I try to edit a category, change its description or intro text it ll give me this message.

What's this bug?

TT, that's not my post, i only answered the person's question.

My post was the same time last night, i searched questions and i searched slugs, its now where to be found, very very strange. One of the Mods must have removed it for some reason.

Anyway can you help me with the slug thing.

My post below was removed and i would like to know the reason why, because i cannot find it anywhere even with a search.

Yesterday i posted a question about altering categories.

I was able to do 90% but the remaining will not change because of the slug, how can i over come this.

It is the same word in every category so i don't see why it won't work in them all.

@gracemarie: I activated Inuit Types on one of my test blogs, and it's called "Front Page Intro" and it should be a text widget that you can drag out of there or just edit so that it has text that you want -- and not your email addy!

According to firebug, that's located in your "header widget." I'm unfamiliar with that theme, but I presume that perhaps the header widget can be found in Appearance > Widgets?

the taglines apparently blank when i go on my Settings-> General that's why I'm confused where this is, its only on the first page and is a bit like a tagline but I want to delete it cant find where its pasted anywhere on all the dashboard in setting options

I dont believe my theme supports excerpts as there isn't an option on the screen options
and ive looked in all the sections of the settings , i dont have an alerts option :S

It looks as if you put that in the Excerpt box (although I could be wrong; that theme is unique). So go to edit the first post and see if it's in the Excerpt box, and if so, remove the email or even the whole thing if you like.

Alternately, it could be an Alert. Go to Dashboard->Settings and change it there.

I've just started creating a website and i've managed to create all the navigation and pages but amidst trying to find out how to change the websites header and blurb I pasted a quick slug somewhere in one of the options but now have looked everywhere and cant find it to delete. It also has my email address with this little blurb.
Its only on my home page between the title of the website and the first post of my static page but i cant find where its pasted anywhere on my dashboard does someone know how i can get rid of it?

I had some category renamed, so existing category slugs are overlapping - how i can edit them directly? I now how to do this on standalone WordPress blogs, but i can not find such option on hosted WordPress.com blog.

A "slug" is the unique portion of the permalink.

For posts: /2011/01/03/this-is-the-slug/

For categories: /category/slug/

For tags: /tag/slug/

For the most part, you'll probably want your category title and slug to be the same, so the category Music would /category/music/.

If you have a particularly long category title, like "My Vacations Around the World," you may want to enter a shorter slug, like /category/vacations/.

Now, the problem you're running in to is that categories and tags share the same slug base (that just sounds terrible) because they are technically the same thing. Think of categories as featured tags.

So, if you have both a Music category and tag, one slug would be music, and the other slug would have to be music-2 or something different.

I hope I didn't ramble on too much, but that's the general idea. :)

Could anyone please tell me what a "slug" is???

I am trying to make new categories and when I try to edit a category - the message "slug" already in use - and I can't change my category name.

That means you have a tag with the same name ("Food"). It is never a good idea to have categories and tags with the same names. Both are treated the same by search engines, so there is no reason to duplicate.

Go to posts > post tags, find that tag and delete it. Then you will be able to rename the Eat category.

I'm trying to change the name of one of my categories from 'Eat' to 'Food', but it won't update. This keeps coming up: [The slug “food” is already in use by another term]Finally sort of figured out what a slug is but still can't figure out how it relates to my problem, how I created this problem, or what I can do about it.
Please help, anyone!

I too have a problem.
No one has bees directed to mine either and yet I use tags.
I Google the name of my blog and it doesn't show anywhere. In fact, what it does show is my other blog instead!
My WordPress Blog is called
A Medium's Musings - if you type that into Google, you get my other blog from Blogger called, Lorraine-the Blog
Why is this?
