Is there a way to put a black border around buttons or even a css code to change the colour?

Find the selector for the buttons you would like to change and then apply a rule such as:

border-color: #000;

To find selectors on your blog, right click the button element you want to change, select the "Inspect Element" option, and look in the panel on the right to see all the current CSS being used. You can usually find the exact right selector that you need in there.

And the post text looks black to me in that example.

How can I increase the size of my logo (as seen in http://kaelimcarter.com/)? And also is there a post format that will not include any text when displayed in the hero slider?

We purchased the theme Soundcheck and are having trouble utilizing the full size of our logo. Within the theme options I have added the file using the url from the media library. The file is a png format and the radio button 'full size' is selected. Referencing another site, http://kaelimcarter.com, which has a slightly larger logo, I know there is a way. How can I make the logo appear larger?

Yes, in general it's better not to multiply things unnecessarily: when you want to apply the same change to multiple elements, you write multiple selectors separated by commas instead of a single selector. So you could have written:

.widget_categories .cat-item-1, .widget_categories .cat-item-293451, .widget_categories .cat-item-80815232 {
display: none;
}

By the way (especially for the sake of other users who might see this question), you can do the same thing without CSS editing: you can create a custom menu in Appearance > Widgets, add only the categories you want to it, then replace the Categories widget with a Custom Menu widget and select the menu you created.

I don't want this category visible on the archive widget. Is there away to remove/hide it?

(By the way, 3500 is wrong: it makes the menu area extend way past the theme, and creates a horizontall scrollbar at the bottom of the browser window: change it to 900.)

But I'm not seeing the code I suggested above. Are you sure you pasted it into the CSS editor then clicked Save? Can you see it if you go to Appearance > Custom Design > CSS?

I did manage to centre some menu txt via the same method of pasting in but it doesn't seem to work for this?
