The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam.

The worst of all spam containing malware and viruses is not sent to us. It's removed as it could bring down many blogs if opened.

On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click "empty spam" and you don't even have to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.

so I have no idea what they have removed or when.
Is it my privacy settings? all I want to do is see what is in the folder - if I could find it.
Possibly a rt click on the akismet green stats could bring up a list, that is what I expected to happen, there were only 4 or five.

Is the comment vague? Could it be applied to just about anything? Is is simply "good job" or some similar bland and useless comment?

More important though is that you need to remove that advert from your sidebar. Please review the TOS before your site is suspended and you won't have any comments to worry about.

We can't find any technical reason on your site why spam comments would have slowed down, so it looks like there is nothing technically wrong in this case.

Thanks for responding. I saw one comment in the spam queue (yesterday, I think). However, I had been seeing spam comments on a regular basis and then (without any changes by me) realized that the queue had suddenly been empty every time I went in. That started in February, I think.

Before I wrote to you all, I checked the settings and saw nothing that should be in the way of the comments being posted. But again they were posting regularly and just stopped - no changes by me.

Since contacting you, I have made some adjustments and now the spam count (not spam in the queue) seems to be holding at 309 for March which seems odd to me when it has been increasing daily (it seems) since I started this blog.

Appreciate your help.

Did you only recently check the box next to "Don't discard spam on old posts" in Settings > Discussion?

If that wasn't checked before, then spam comments on old posts would have been discarded automatically.

I can see the spam count increasing everyday but suddenly the spam comments box is always empty. (There were a total of 50 spam comments for March when I checked this morning, 48 yesterday.)

What changed? Can you fix this so I can continue to review them.

Akismet "learns" when you mark comments as spam: do not simply delete them. Mark as spam and they will soon go away.
