All widgets are located here > Appearance > Widgets
Locate the widget in question and open it and click "delete" inside the widget.

New basic, non-javaScript code now in place but the old button is still there. My new button should be invisible. New button is being detected by the stat site.

I clicked that widget code and discovered this:

WordPress.org (I pay for the hosting) Install Guide

Well excuse me but you have installed a code that will not work on a free hosted WordPress.COM blog. That code is clearly for a WordPress.ORG install. http://statcounter.com/wordpress.org/

Remove all the code from the text widget. Go back to the site and get the non-JavaScript code that can be used on WordPress.COM blogs. For clarity please read > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hi,

I have removed a text widget which contained code for a visitor counter (statcounter). However, there is still a button in my margin which reads 'project not found'. How do I remove the leftover code which is generating this button? I have tried overwriting with new text with no effect. Thanks in advance. Oh, and I don't have the CSS upgrade.

I agree with @errhode on that. The in house stats of WordPress does not provide the entire picture on the stats. Will the Site stats be expanded/enhanced to have these in the future?

I also use statcounter without javascript, and it gives some information, but not the information that interests me; namely, the coupling of geographic information with keyword referrals (i.e. are the people from Minnesota searching for Minnesota Twins terms? why is there a rash of British IPs? are they also looking for baseball information?).

If wordpress allowed a javascript exception for statcounter, the way they do with youtube, this would be possible. Moving to wordpress.org would be a bit overkill for what I want.

Although you can't get the keyword tracking with Statcounter on the HTML version, you can get geographic location via the IP numbers on it. I use Statcounter on my blog and it works well, even without the ability to use Javascript.

If you don't like the limitations of WordPress.com, you could always self-host via WordPress.org instead. Here are the differences between the two:

I have noticed the same trouble between the stats, but didn't know the why. This explains it.

For whatever reason my blog here is getting so much more traffic than another site I used (for which I am grateful and after an early struggle here, I am very happy I made the move), but it is disappointing not seeing keyword referrals on my statcounter.

What I'm asking for is an upgrade to the wordpress policies, not a list of alternative suggestions that still don't do what I want.

Sitemeter has the same problem as StatCounter -- no javascript means no keyword referral tracking. I haven't checked all of the ones you've listed, but I believe that in general, if there is no javascript, there is no keyword referrals. StatCounter has worked great for me on non-wordpress.com sites and I like to continue using it to its full potential, instead of the crippled version I get without javascript. What I'm asking for is an upgrade to the wordpress policies, not a list of alternative suggestions that still don't do what I want.

I know wordpress.com has it's own stats tracker, but I find it very lacking information. In particular, I'm interested in the geographic location of my readers coupled with the keyword referral. Unfortunately, wordpress's built in stats tracker doesn't log geographic information and independent stat trackers like StatCounter can't log the keyword referrals without the use of javascript, which wordpress blocks. I understand the security reason behind not allowing javascript and even understand the economic reason behind not wanting to promote someone else's stat tracker when you have your own. However, is there any hope that a StatCounter or similar plug-in will be allowed as trusted javascript a la YouTube in the future?

I can get a new IP and so can any stalker in no time flat. Unplug the router, user another router, wait for several hours for the IP to change, use another computer, use another app, etc. What that means is means focusing on a single IP is misleading and creates a false sense of security.

No one is anonymous on the internet. Even when we use a pseudonym we leave digital breadcrumbs trails wherever we go. The way stalkers find their prey time and time again is simply stated; the prey provides the information required so the digital breadcrumb trail is easy to follow. If you do not want the stalker to locate your blog then do not reveal ANY personal information in your blog and change the visibility to "private" to keep search engines from indexing the content.

I have installed StatCounter on my blog and have access to the IP addresses and country of visitors, the URLs they visited, but nothing else because of the JavaScript block. The only use I have of IP addresses is to see if I have returning visitors.

This being said, sorry to sound pessimistic, but there are many ways your "stalker" could change IP addresses... Just Google "how do I change my IP address".

I can tell if my stalker has found my blog and reading by the IP address....I have gone through so many blogs to get away from them. I hate that I can use my Histats counter to monitor my blog. I really don't care who is reading it except for one person.

May I ask why you need to know the IPs of your visitors? What useful purpose does it serve?

I spent the past 3 years blogging over at Blogger. Though I love blogging at WordPress, I am disappointed that my stats are not as descriptive as what I had with Site Meter and Stat Counter. Even installing StatCounter and SiteMeter, I can't see all of the info I used to see when at Blogger. I am assuming this is a Java issue.

I do like the WordPress Stats - but couldn't you add something where we can actually see the IP information for those visiting our blog? I used to be able to see all this with SiteMeter and StatCounter when I could add the Java widget. I miss being able to know where they are coming from, IP address, location, where they came from, etc.

Or...is there anyway around the 'no Java widget' rule here on WordPress?

Just in case I wasn't clear above I use a free 3rd party stats program. It provides me with with data including which pages visitors enter my blog on and which pages they visit and exit on, as well as, how long their visit was, which country they came from, the browser they used, etc.

WordPress.com stats are based on page views. The metrics provided by that program do not provide us with stats for unique visitors. A page view is defined below.

If for example sake, I click into your home page in the morning and do not click any links on that front page then counts is 1 page view. If I click in to your front page later in the day and click links to 20 posts on your blog then the page view count is 20. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

What is a hit?
In web analytics, a hit is any request for a file from a web server. By request means a hit calculates page content delivered, all images to complete that page, and any additional files that need to be loaded to make the web page you are looking at, appear the way it does.

What is a page view?
A page view is a request to load a single page of an internet site that results from a page request from a web surfer clicking on a link on another HTML page which is pointing to the page in question.

What is a unique visitor?
A unique visitor is access from a single IP to a web server that generates page views and hits during a particular visit. When a visitor has cookies disabled, there is no way of establishing if they are a unique visitor or not.

There are third party visitor tracking programs that do provide countries and other details and that can be used on wordpress.com blogs. I have reviewed several. Note that javascript cannot be used on our blogs here as the software will strip out the code to preserve security on this multiuser blogging platform.

You can't tell which posts were read they way your home page is -

To get what you want use the <read more> to only show part of the post on the home page - if someone clicks on the read more then the view of the whole post will be recorded.

I have 1464 views, but 578 show as homepage. How do i see what posts are included in that figure of 578 homepage views? Homepage tells me nothing about what posts are being read and what posts fell on deaf ears.
