My website does not load the home page when I write my address. It's loading the home page only when I instruct it to do so as : .com/home/
What should I do in order to have my display in the "home page showing up at .com?

And I do understand the difference between pages and posts. I eliminated only pages I had previously added.

It also doesn't help to change the theme. I'm completely blocked from customizing.

I tried adding a new post and it did not receive the error message. I can't get to the customization page at all to make sure the main page links to the blog feed. Adding a new page doesn't help. Help!

Did you purchase a cusom design upgrade?

No changes you try out aside from those such as Custom Background, Custom Header and Theme Options which are stated on the theme description pages for each theme will be visible to visitors unless you purchase an annually renewable custom design upgrade?

NOTE: If you do not have a CSS upgrade then skip using the theme customizer. All of the very same functions can be accessed from your dashboard.

It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching, or one of the links below, can help.

By default the front page of your blog displays all posts. The 404 (page not found) error message on the front page of the blog appeared because the Admin of the blog deleted the placeholder Hello World post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/ As soon as you publish a post, not a page it will disappear. Read the differences between Pages and Posts.

The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.

To do that create two pages > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

When I click customize to restore main link to my posts page, I get a blank screen and "Loading design tools" that never resolves to anything.

How do I get my front page to show my blog feed again? Now it shows nothing and says there's an error. It won't allow me to access any of the customization features.

Thank you, timethief and the sacredpath. If I'm reading correctly, the only way to make the Posts page properly display the Showcase slider (other than upgrading to the custom package and using CSS) is to make the page I designate Posts as my front page. If I do that, will the posts page now appear as the default landing page when people enter my blog URL?

Blogs are essentially a reverse chronological order publishing tool and you cannot change this order on a free hosted WordPress.com blog. However, you can alter the date stamp and time stamp on each post so they are ordered as you wish.

Look on this support page on the featured image and scroll down to "twenty eleven." You have to set a featured image of a specific size for the featured post slider to work. The support page shows the image sizes needed.

Theme description:

To get started with the custom Showcase Page Template you need to create a page for it. Choose the Showcase Template under page templates in any page, save it, and assign it as the front page in Settings → Reading. This will change your site from the standard Twenty Eleven blog look to Twenty Eleven’s fancy showcase. You still have you regular blog list at hand for several views, like categories, searches, and tags and you can specify another page to work as your blog if you want to.

To add posts to the Featured Post section, also known as a post slider, just mark some posts as sticky. That’s all there is to it.

To have a big featured image you need to use an image that is at least as big as the header image (1000px x 288px). Also, make sure you have a set size for Large image under Settings → Media that allows for such sizes. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentyeleven/

I'm using the Twenty Eleven theme. I have a Posts page, set to the "Showcase" Template, which should allow a slider box at the top of the page displaying up to 10 featured (Sticky) posts. However, the Sticky posts appear at the top of the page, but not in a Slider frame. How can I correct this?

My blog/website is an account of my trekking in Nepal for several weeks. Its main purposes is so I can provide friends with a link to the website and I wont have to flood inboxes of those who may not be interested with dozens of emails. I kept a paper journal, and have transcribed it after the event.

A secondary purpose is possibly to make it useful for potential travelers to the same area, as a supplement to the standard guide books. I am not averse to search engine attention, but it may not be natural to do posts rather then pages since this is after the event. Also, some of the pages have images, can you do that with a post?

I would imagine that if I were to redo the whole thing as posts, they would all be on long page, hard to navigate. My trekking journal has around 20 pages. The menu system seems to make it easy to navigate to a particular date or place.

I do want to allow people to comment.

Thank you! I had forgotten that I had set up a static page. Sorry! I did some "remodeling" in my blog and tried some of the things i had learned about from the tutorial section. I didnt realize that was what I had don though. I still have a lot to learn. After looking at it, i decided to leave it the way it was though. I really like the way it looks.

That's fine as long as you comprehend that pages don't attract much search engine attention. They are for static content that rarely changes. It's frequent publication of posts that attracts search engine attention. Blogs are post based structures that provide for and encourage interactive communication. Websites are page based structures that operate as a one-way noticeboards.

Choosing an arbitrary page as the Posts page rather than creating a page with the title Posts, had the bad effect of making the arbitrary page not work. So I created a Posts page and made it private in the settings so it cannot be seen in the menu. I don't plan on doing posts.

I had someone suggest that i make the first page on my blog but the blogs i posted instead of the about the blog page. But i can not get it to change. I tried to go in through my menu and change the order, but when i go to my blog it still pulls up the about me section first instead of the blogs i posted, can someone please help me with this? Or suggest how i should place them..

I chose two existing pages for the Front Page and Post Page, rather than creating two new pages named Home and Posts as per instructions. It seems to work; I hope nothing bad happens.

Thanks for the suggestion. On the settings->general page I did not see a setting to change that would change some sort of default home page. I did change the URL of the About page from ..../about-2 to .../about, but that did not help.
