Whether a page you create at pages > add new has comments or not has nothing to do with "static."

If you do not want those pages to have comments, then you need to turn comments off for each of those pages. Open the page in the editor, scroll down underneath the text box in the editor and in the "discussion" module, turn comments off and then save the changes.

I've been trying to create a static welcome page on my new blog and I tried going to settings, reading, and altering the front page display but it doesn't do a thing for me. The comment box is still there. Also, is there a way to make all but my blog page static? The name of my blog is http://tyrawilloughby.wordpress.com/

@makingwordcount, as it says in the link TT references, it is easiest and best to add only the specific classes and IDs you need, and then only the specific declarations you are adding or changing and use the "add to existing..." This makes it much easier to see what you have changed and for making future changes or adjustments since you will not have to wade through all of the CSS that you did not change.

Thank you for your advice. I've realized I've been running two sites at once and want to stick with the simpler .com option. You've given great direction to other newbies so I'll start with what you've already posted in terms of design changes.

I do have one question. Is it better on the CSS Editor page to "Just add to the Wu Wei theme CSS Stylesheet or Start from scratch and just use this option? I don't like in the former that I can't scroll through everything.

We need a link to the blog that you are talking about, but if you are dealing with PHP files, then you are in the wrong forum and need to head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported.

These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently (not to mention we cannot edit the PHP files here).

Here at wordpress.COM on this multiuser blogging platform we cannot access PHP files. Have you read the sticky post at the head of the forum describing the differences between wordpress.COM free hosted blogs and free software installs for self hosting from wordpress.ORG?

Using the Wu Wei theme and trying to figure out how I turn off the posting feature (comments, links, etc.) that appear on all the pages. I would just like to have one page as a blog and the rest as static pages. I have the CS Editor feature as well as the php files.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

First, you'll need to actually create a page for the posts, then assign it at Settings -> Reading in your Dashboard.

If you aren't using a custom menu, it should appear automatically. If you are, you'll have to manually add it to your menu at Appearance -> Menus in your Dashboard.

I deliberately set one my static pages as the home / landing page for the site. How do I set the site to display the post page as a navigation option as well for visitors to the site? I have a couple of posts that are published and intact but seem to be only accessible through the edit feature...

You should be able to use the following selector to style the "Welcome" heading:

#content h2.entry-title { }

Hi.. I need some help on a similar issue. I have a blog in the making and have set the welcome page as the static page, however when I do this I lose the colour on the font of the "Welcome" heading.

I have tried variations of the suggestions above

.home .entry-title (colour:#aaaa }

but no joy..
I have picked through the original CSS search for "static" and "home" etc but cant seem to get the right selector.

Any help at this point would be appreciated! It's amazing how annoying one black word can be.

You're welcome. The preview has been flakey lately. I know some of it has to do with the current crop of browsers though since they are all now far more reliant on cached pages to give the appearance of the browsers being fast.

CSS is theme specific, so what works in one almost never works in another.

If you are using the preview function, add the above to your CSS edit window at the bottom of whatever else you have in there, then when you click preview, refresh the preview page and take another look. Again, the above code works on the PAGES such as the about page, so you will have to look there. Your main page is set to show posts, and it is never a good idea to remove post titles.

I've verified the above code works in my test blog.

Thanks for the quick reply. That didn't work for me as an append to the Coraline theme. Is there a particular section of the CSS that I need to add it to for this theme? I tried the structure section but that didn't work. I'm a total CSS newbie and I'm thinking that, even if I code correctly, I'm not able to get the changes to work properly because of where I'm putting the changes. Hope this makes sense

To remove page titles (like on your about page, not post titles like on your main page) the following with work.

Hi, this is an issue I've been struggling with for a while. I'm currently using the Coraline theme for a site I'm developing for my business. I'm not at all sure where to put this code in my CSS to remove the page names from any page that I have in my sites. I've put the suggested code in different sections of the theme or just added it to the theme but it doesn't work. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I'm using the site below for testing. Thanks!

Typo in the suggested code (opening parethesis where it should be a curly brace). Try this and force refresh the preview page too:

OK, log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then try again. If you are using the preview function, it has been a little flakey lately and sometimes you also have to force refresh the preview page.

I just figured out that the changes I'm making to my style sheet appear to not be saving. (even though wordpress tells me "stylesheet saved".

It's been a while since I've done this.

One other suggestion. You might add about 5px of padding-left to #site-title a to space the title off the left a little.
