having more from the recent posts showing up

If you mean display a larger number of posts in the showcase front, that's not a CSS issue: the number is controlled by you in Settings > Reading > "Blog pages show at most [n] posts".
If you mean display excerpts instead of titles, that's not a CSS issue either.

Yep, I did read those, and all sounds great, but I am just saying that all I need is to change bits of the homepage layout (basically having more from the recent posts showing up), and that I don't think it is worth getting a full package that will have to be renewed on top of that every year. I would get it happily if I was planning to do more but I am not.

So, I've been doing some search and taking some tutorials on how to change a Css to make my blog look like just what I want, and now I feel ready to try it out!

The only thing is that I can't locate the CSS or how to access it from my dashboard. Ok pretty simple if I want to change a specific post or page, I go to the text editor. But in that case I want to modify the layout of the homepage, so where should I go?

Btw, I am using the Twenty Eleven theme.

Just to make sure, did you check the fonts in the Appearance → Custom Design → Fonts panel and not find anything that will do? If you had a specific font in mind, let me know the font name and why you picked it and I'll pass along that feedback to our developers.

I know what you mean about wanting to scan the CSS. If you use something like Firefox's built in "Style Editor," you should be able to see the expanded, unminified version of the CSS.

You really don't need an extra link to look at the theme's stylesheet, and that isn't a comprehensive view of all the CSS that is being loaded anyway. Using browser tools is a better route—you should try them out!

I do have TextWrangler. I downloaded the Tarski theme and opened the style.css file but it's all running together and I cannot seem to get the syntax to read item by item like I have in the past.

I realize this isn't a TW forum but does anyone have ideas one how to get around this. I need to be able to scan the css for things I want to change.

I used the Firebug add-on in Firefox (web developer tool) to find the original CSS file.

Also, unless you are going to basically completely redo all the CSS, do not paste the entire stylesheet into the CSS edit window. Put only the specific selectors and specific declarations you are adding or changing into the editor. At WordPress.com you are creating rules to override the original stylesheet rather than editing the existing.
