I see you've added a few additional menu items since posting initially. Now that you have multiple submenu items of varying lengths, showing each on its own single line will make the dropdown very wide.

With the items you have in the menu now, this CSS snippet should cause each to appear on its own line:

.menu #menu-item-1400 ul li { width: 180px; }

Note that if you add additional submenu items that are longer than the "My Instagram @kheyansory" link, you'll need to increase the width accordingly.

Another option is to set the width to 100%. When I did so, the submenu items were still on multiple lines, but had a more uniform block appearance. The code snippet below will illustrate that.

.menu #menu-item-1400 ul li { width: 100%; }

There are many ways to create a bilingual site.

What you did was to create Pages titled by each language. You cannot put posts on Pages the way you wish it to work.

Here are other options.

If you are translating the same post, put one language at the top and the translation at the bottom of the same post. Many people learning languages love this as they can read in the language they are learning and glance at the other language to make sure they have it right.

If you are producing separate content in the two languages, create a category for English and another for French and other categories reflective of the topics you are talking about along with tags in both languages to increase navigation opportunities. Use the Custom Menu feature to place the English and French categories where you wish them (I would not use a submenu as these are key navigation points right? Just add them directly to the menu), and users can click which category of posts to read. That is probably the best method.

Thanks and good luck with your travels.

My blog's theme customisation has taken a lot of inspiration from http://thepatternedpress.wordpress.com

What I would like to do is create a drop-down menu and edit it. Under my About Me menu I have added a sub-menu (a page) called About This Blog. I've been trying to edit this submenu so that it would appear as one line instead of 2 but the codes I've tried don't seem to work. Can anyone help me with the CSS coding, please?

Also, how do I make the Menu Tabs change into a background colour when I hover over them?

I hope that makes sense. This is my first time blogging & learning about CSS.

Thank you.

Therefore, my few submenu items that aren't working are also just categories of posts. I have no trouble creating or organizing them and I have read through the support docs. But I still can't find the answer I'm looking for: I can't click on some sub-menus to view those categorized posts, as if no link exists and it's just floating text.

You can create a custom menu and include exactly what you want in it while excluding what you don't want from it.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

Among the most common misconceptions is that bloggers fail to understand is
(1) there is only one page we can post to in any blog and
(2) the static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ they create do not automatically update.

Only the dynamic pages like Categories, Tags and Archives created by the software when we publish a post we that we have assigned Categories and Tags too will update automatically update with new posts.

By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.

We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu. Then add your sub-pages as well.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#changing-the-order-creating-sub-menus

Here’s a link to a custom menu walk-through > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/11/wordpress-com-custom-menu-walk-through/

There are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and you can read about them here. > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

Hi all!

I've been searching through various support forums, but did not find any suitable answer. So, I'll post the question here...

The blog I created uses the Twenty Eleven theme. With this theme I created submenus which display posts for a certain category (all as found in the extensive help and how-to's).

Trouble is that the submenus on iPad can't be used. When I select I seem to get to the menu option that's on the second line (because the main menu stretches over 2 lines)

I'd first I thought I was able to disable the mobile feature of the theme, as such giving me full site on iPad. But no luck there.

I then tried to google help about the iPad submenu problem. Found a number of pages juggling with CSS. But I guess this is only possible with the (paid) pro version.

So, in short do I have any free possibility to resolve my submenu on iPad problem?

Thanks for your time and advice!

Hi, I'm trying to make a few minor changes to my site http://www.theopenhandcafe.com with delicacy theme.

There are a few custom colors, however I'd like to change the red to a darker red. Is that possible? I'm not very familiar with the .css files, but if someone points me in the right direction, "replace this " or "add this" - I've been able to fix everything myself so far.

Here are a few things I'm trying to do:
- Change the color theme to a darker red (#800000)
- Change the font color of the sub menu
- Create a sub-submenu - (there's a submenu under tab "to promote you" and I have several pages set up with parent "inner circle" and also set up the custom menu for them to appear under "inner circle", however they still don't show up...
- Remove the search field from the header and move it to the side bar
- Remove the post/page title on the front page, as well as the page date and 'comments off' so that the video can move above the fold.

Really appreciate your help!
Anja

Hey mates!

I've this blog that I'm using as my Portfolio (architecture and photography). I will try to be clear...

I've done three pages for each section (architecture, photography and CV). But inside the section of architecture, I would like to put a submenu with Design, Housing and Final Project, that those are different categories that should appear only when I'm in the page architecture .

I don't know how to custom this :
- How to put categories that only appear in the sidebar when I'm in a selected page?
- Or how to make a submenu inside one page, when the components of this submenu are not pages...
