Sorry, but for a second time now, my post has not appeared on the 'reader' under all the appropriate tags I've listed. (This means no-one will see the post unless they deliberately go to my blog.) I have removed cookies etc as suggested on the support page and refreshed etc.

What to do?

Could someone help in understanding how these themes are chosen?

If someone is interested in seeing if his/her own theme qualifies to be in the list of 200+ awesome themes, what is the procedure?

I read here that one should post the theme details at the theme forum to catch the attention of WordPress staff. But, all these new themes getting added to WordPress.com on Thursday/Friday doesn't seem to be going through this channel. Perhaps, there is another procedure to reach out WordPress staff?

I hope my question is valid one.

First check to make sure you are the author on the post where the comments are getting added.
Check the Settings > Discussion page to make sure email notifications are turned on.

5. Make a note of number after the post= (12345 in my example). This is the id of your post.
6. Before or after your [gallery], add a line like:
Click HERE to upload a photo to the gallery.
7. Make the word HERE into a link, with the following link address, with your own post_id inserted instead of the 12345.

http://yourblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/media-upload.php?post_id=12345&type=image&TB_iframe=true

Now update the post.

All registered authors and above will now be able to use this button to upload photos from their computers.
