Since most themes use h1 and h2 in various places where different sizes and styles are desired, you typically have to use a more specific selector. The % sizes I have are very close to what they are originally even though that may seem strange (135% and 200%). :)

For the h2 titles on the main site page, add this to your custom CSS and then adjust the font size as desired.

.wf-active .grid h2 {
font-size: 135%;
}

For the single post pages and static pages (about, etc.) add this and adjust as desired.

.wf-active #single h1 {
font-size: 200%;
}

In the editing CSS document, if you look right above the "Editing Options" heading, you will find a brief discussion on the developer tools built into, or available for the popular browsers. They can help you zero in on the CSS and the specific selectors you are looking for.

Try saving something simple that won't really change anything on the blog to see if the CSS editor works:

First off just a simple request, what is the CSS code for changing the font/size etc for the article/post headers (h1, h2 etc dosn't seem to work)

Is there also a CSS code to make the Navigation/older posts larger?

I am very new to CSS/HTML and so any help would be much appreciated.

Another alternative to setting the background color via CSS would be to add back the lines with a color change like this:

#site-title, .desc, #access, .grid, #access .menu > ul, #access ul.menu, .bottom, #bottom-wrapper, .navigation h3, #single h1, #single h2, #single h3, #single h4, #single h5, #single h6, .aside h3, .meta h3, .archive-heading, #single {
	border-color: #000;

Change #000 to a color code of your choice.

Updating the background color via CSS is probably the easier route. :)

No content is ever lost when changing themes.

Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes
browse themes until you find one you like and click "activate"
or type in the name of the theme you want to use and
click the "activate" link when it appears

After you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.

Once I click on the title and image then blog opens, and can be read fully.

I had an image initially, in the body of the post, but then deleted it(even deleted it from my media file library as a precaution). I also cleared cache and signed out/signed in to give fresh update. Still the post does not appear.

And some themes have alternative ways of displaying some fixed content above your posts on the homepage; for instance, Modularity Lite, Mixfolio and Titan have a "Welcome message” / "Welcome" / “Homepage Notice” area (all in Appearance > Theme Options), Hatch has a "Brief Introduction" area (Appearance > Customizer > Theme Options), and Inuit Types has a Front Page Intro widget (Appearance > Widgets).
