Hello there! I'm new to the WordPress community so please get mad if this is a repeated question > <

My blog site is http://chibiprincess.wordpress.com/

When I go into customize it shows what I can change and all and I do my changes. When I click save though, it takes forever to save and it just stays like that. I have cleared my cache and enable 3rd party cookies and I'm up to date with Firefox. Can anyone help me? Also, I did not try switching browser nor do I plan on to.

This code,

body.custom-colors #page, body.custom-background.custom-background-image-empty #page {
background: #FFFFFF;
}

has correct syntax. Did you perhaps miss the ending bracket? I just tried it again in Firebug in Firefox and it worked.

Alternately you can go with the following code.

#page {
background: #FFFFFF !important;
}`

It isn't a good idea to write code that requires the "!important" attribute, but it should work. The CSS editor will whine at you with a warning though.

I'm tinkering with the Sundance theme. I've created three dummy posts, including two with videos and supporting text. I made them sticky, so they do show up in the carousel, along with the except text I added. The problem is that the main body text from each post ALSO populates each carousel slide. How can I stop this from happening? I only want the excerpt text to show with the video. Thanks.

Generally for background colors with WordPress themes, you specify the overall background color in "body" such as below. I added in the page ID as well.

body, #page {
background: rgb(232,221,203);
}

Doing it with "div" is basically a shotgun approach and turns absolutely every div in the page that tan color. While this may work in some instances, it could end up turning things tan that you would not want to be tan.

Now, do you know how I can change the size of the gravatar?

Well, you can stretch the image with CSS rules, but the size the original image is set by the theme's PHP code and cannot be adjusted with CSS only. That means that changing the size will probably make the image look blurry. It might work if you only change the size a little. Here is a CSS rule you can experiment with:

.avatar {
	width: 70px;
	height: 70px;
}

An alternative would be to replace the image manually with CSS, but it has a downside which is that it gets rid of the hovercard feature. Here it is an example if you want to try it out:

.avatar {
	display: none;
}

.entry-header > a {
	background: url(http://2.gravatar.com/avatar/89d03635943476a1a503a911b2926b65?s=75) no-repeat;
	float: left;
	margin: 9px 0 0 -16.66666666%;
	width: 75px;
	height: 75px;
}

Note how I changed the Gravatar URL so that it ended with "?s=75". Make sure that number matches whatever width/height you pick.

What is most frustrating is that I have a book containing a lot of CSS reference and it seems 90% of it just doesnt work on WordPress.

Highly unlikely that's WordPress-related. What book is it out of curiosity? I'm particularly fond of this book and learned a lot from it when it came out: http://www.cssmastery.com/

First, try using ".wp-caption img" as a selector. That will affect any image inside a caption—if you are trying to restrict it further than that, reply back about what exactly you're trying to target. For example, to limit the effect just to captioned images on the home page, you could use a selector of .home .wp-caption img" Next, your syntax is just a bit off.

This:

transition-property: opacity, 4s, linear;

Should be:

transition-property: opacity;

And this:

opacity, 4s, linear

Should be:

opacity 4s linear

Try updating your example to this:

.wp-caption img {
	transition-property: opacity;
	-o-transition: opacity 4s linear;
	-moz-transition: opacity 4s linear;
	-webkit-transition: opacity 4s linear;
	opacity: .25;
}
.wp-caption img:hover {
	opacity: 1;
}

Remember that this stuff is CSS3, so make sure you're testing with a browser that supports it. http://caniuse.com/#search=transition
