I would probably buy the new domain name and point it to the blog you want it to go to - then change the mapping for the existing domain name to the new blog - you can have more than one domain name mapped to the same blog so that is not an issue - you can only have one "Primary" domain name per web site / blog (the name visitors see in their browser address bar)

When you change themes the widgets migrate to the Inactive Widgets box. After you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.

Does stuff get deleted when you switch themes?

Also, the number of my followers got deleted. Does that show up again when I put that button back up?

If you’ve registered your domain through WordPress.com and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers.
