This theme is awesome. So you did choose it for your start.

Your blog also looks nice.

As regards your query, may you try putting selected text in the 'excerpts', and also using tags and putting your posts under some categories of your choice.

Hope the above advice works.

Hi everyone,

I only joined wordpress.com this week so am having to learn very quickly so excuse me if this is a stupid question.

Have started a blog (http://teamfootball.wordpress.com/) and have managed to get round most of the problems I've encountered except one.

I am using the Sunspot theme. The articles (posts) are appearing fine on their individual pages but, on the homepage, the tagline is mixed in with the body text of the article.

I don't mind what the solution is - to remove the body text entirely from the homepage, to change the colour or create a gap somehow - but nothing I have tried has worked.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

RD

Go to Appearance → Widgets, expand the Links widget, and look for the "Sort by" option. It doesn't have a way for you to sort the links manually, but it does have a couple basic options like title, ID (basically, the order entered), or a couple others.

Aha! You didn't even say you were using the links widget before. :) If you can point out specific examples (i.e. mention exactly which link you're referring to) when you ask for help, it makes it so it's much easier to figure out how to help.

My confusion was that I didn't know that first you have to create links before using links widgets. I thought that you can use any of the two separately. When I used one of each separately, nothing worked.
Thank you! Now, I need to figure out how to have categories' names disappear from links. I don't need the category name above each link.
How do you do that?

Great start!

In the theme you are using, Oxygen, the class for the tagline is "site-description", and you also need to have a "." in front of it to designate it as a class in a CSS selector.

If you switch "description" to ".site-description" in your example, it should work.

That's not something you can change for the site title on a WordPress.com site using CSS. You can change it for links inside content areas like posts and pages though. To do it, check the "Open Link in a New Window/Tab" option when you create a link. Here is an example:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/#creating-links

To add the code to your stylesheet, you can follow the same directions that justpi gave you in this forum thread: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/header-below-the-title-page?replies=16#post-859484

I encourage you to start by just pasting in the code that designsimply gave you. There isn't a way to just add serifs to an existing font; you will have to find a serif font that you like.

#site-description {

You can read more about font stacks at http://unitinteractive.com/blog/2008/06/26/better-css-font-stacks/

#site-description {
	font-family: ff-market-web-1,ff-market-web-2,"Helvetica Neue",Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif !important;
}

Note that for the 2nd option, you must use a font that is selected as one of the main options on the Appearance → Custom Design → Fonts page.
