You cannot build your own theme here nor can you upload any third party themes. Also note that we WordPress.com bloggers cannot install any plugins. Both are only for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

I suggest you look at some of the higher-level theme designers, the ones who have worked directly with Automattic, like WooThemes. Some themes have malware built in.

If you have CSS editing skills, all the changes you ask for can be applied to EVERY WordPress.org theme. It's just a matter of changing which images are called in the CSS. But you will need to seek help at the WordPress.ORG forums, not here. We can't do the same level of theme hacking.

I purchased and downloaded a theme from Themefores (this one: http://themeforest.net/item/king-size-fullscreen-background-wordpress-theme/166299), and I guess I was under the impression that there'd be a tool in WordPress to import this. I have now downloaded an FTP client in attempts to get this to work, but as I just set up my domain through WordPress yesterday, I have no idea what to input for the following: host, username, password, port. My WordPress username and password doesn't work for this, so how can I find out what they are? And does one really need an FTP client for WordPress???

Listen to @raincoaster, she helps bloggers and web sites for a living, many companies use WordPress for their sites.

Don't be too quick to abandon WordPress.COM. This is about as easy a place there is go get a web site up and running.

You can filter the theme search this way. Try Inuit Types which is free and I have it on http://raincoastermedia.com or you could try any of the big, clean white themes and just lay it out very simply. You don't need to make Posts if you don't want. Just have your main page (edit the Hello World post and put new content in) and an About page and maybe something else, like Services etc.
