great...
Anybody who is having this problem- Vimeo does really well with video, and I recommend it. It's about $60/year and worth it. The basic functions, you would expect to be provided, are made very user friendly. Don't make the same mistake I did. Videos through videopress are also stamped with their logo, even when you pay for the service.

Hi there,

You are correct, the still image which is loaded as a preview for VideoPress is a low-res sample which you can designate from any point in your video which you upload to your site. At this time there is no way to upload a higher resolution version nor to pull a higher res still from the video itself.

Hello,

I am new to wordpress and need some help with the last thing left to do on my blog before I can start posting!

I have created my blog in a customised Twenty Eleven theme and have basically kept it completely basic and minimal.

I have made it so only post appears at a time and then I created (with a LOT of help from justpi) a page which displays all the posts in thumbnails as tiles.

Now I want to add a link to this page at the bottom of my main page (where the posts are - one post per page) below the text of the post. So as it stands now, I add an image with every blog post and then add some text. Below this text I now have a "Older Posts" and "Newer Posts" links. Below these two links and in the middle, I would like a link to the page of thumbnails to read "View all Posts".

Can anyone help me with some CSS (if that is what I need), or with what it is I might need to make this possible?

Any help is much appreciated!

Thank you

Any other takers???? :-D

The reason you cannot change the original size of the featured images is that they are hard coded into the theme. WordPress.com does not offer the option for you to change the underlying theme code because it's a shared service and the themes are used by many others at the same time. CSS editing can adjust elements the theme code introduces, but it cannot change underlying function—and the size of featured images is one of those things. If you were to setup a WordPress.org install on a separate web hosting account away from WordPress.com, then you would be the only one using the theme you install yourself and you would have the ability to edit the underlying theme code and update the featured image sizes that way.

Hello all,

If you look around my wordpress.com site thiswanderinglife.com (own domain, not self-hosted) you'll see that I have successfully changed the width of the content. Huzzah!

However, if you scroll to the recent articles part, you can see that my thumbnails look cut off: they are the theme's standard size, and look only half as long as I would like them to be.

I was able to change the CSS for the rest of the content (check this post out for example http://ourparisianlife.wordpress.com/2013/05/06/paris-in-color-young-turquoise-in-paris/) I really just went into the custom editor part through the dashboard.

Can I change the automatic size of the thumbails for the recent articles section via CSS? I obviously don't use FTP since mine is not self hosted. Reading other threads I have figured out that the Oxygen theme creates three different sizid images for featured images- I would just like to change one of them.

Praises to all advice, helpful and otherwise.

Hi,

I think the Gallery would be the best way to go. Do you have the Custom Design upgrade?

There likely is a way to modify the spacing/border/etc of the gallery pictures to work toward your end.

In either case, the workflow would be to delete/draft the individual page and then modify the gallery to remove that particular image.

Perhaps not a slam dunk, but my best thought!

Cheers!
