1. I'm concerned about my Google page rank and I was wondering whether you can shift your entire blog to other hosting under WordPress.org without losing your domain name and article url's . Keep in mind that I own my domain and the brand name is somewhat established by now.

There will be no change, but you will notice fewer hits. WP.com is incredibly SEO optimized and there's no way to avoid a dip, going from a huge host to a smaller one.

2. Will I lose my WordPress.com followers ? If so , how can I make the shift without losing them.

If you install Jetpack and post back here in the forum and tag it Modlook, staff will transfer your followers to the new blog.

3. Is it possible for all the media to be shifted under the new hosting ? ( Will the url's be the same ? A similar doubt as question 1 )

Yes.

4. Will I lose all my page views ? Of so , how can this be prevented ?

See my answer re:stats above. Staff can port them over to your new blog if you ask them to.

Glad I found this string, as I'm researching the same things. I wish there were some sort of more clear step by step help/instructions for the transition. Something like a to-do/don't-forget list for some of us who aren't super tech savvy and don't want to lose our hard work. Will keep checking here!

I suppose that because the database is yours you could set them to anything you want initially!

I have not done this myself, but my understanding is that WordPress.org has several options for URL format, one of which is completely compatible with WordPress.com. If you have been using WordPress.com with a domain mapping then you should not lose page rank, as all links/search terms will retain the same media.

Images, etc are imported into .org though the old site must be up while you do the import. The export xml just contains media locations by URL. On WordPress.com media is always referenced by the underlying blog name (something.wordpress.com) so it is still available after the domain is moved to your new host.

Staff can transfer followers if you install the jetpack plugin - I don't know what this involves I have just seen that answer a number of times.

When you say "page views" do you mean stats? If so I think that they will all start at zero - though I am not 100% sure

Hi there !
I've been using WordPress.com for about 5 months now to run my tech/entertainment blog. I've purchased my own domain too : http://esponential.com . We've managed to get a moderate amount of average daily traffic as well ( ~ 200 ) . However , I feel the need to have full control over the appearance of my site . I'd like to be able to make use of the functionality that plugins bring to the table. Hence , I've made a decision to move to WordPress.org as soon as possible.
I've read some articles on the web and have somewhat understood the process . However , I do have some doubts and I'd appreciate it if you could help me out.

So , basically , you'll notice that I simply wish to shift from wordpress.com to WordPress.org without affecting anything. I will then , continue to build the site , just with more control.

These editors are called different things in different control panels, so where you're looking matters, hence the URL question.

So i want to use some HTML on a page of a website, but it only has 2 tabs. The 'text' tab and the 'Wysiwyg' tab. How can I get rid of the weird wysiwyg thing and get HTML instead? It's pretty annoying if I'm not able to use HTML... What does the 'Wysiwyg' thing even do? It doesn't accept HTML... Please someone help me out with getting the tab back!

You may be able to recover an earlier post revision. Go to Posts > All Posts, hover over the title of the post, click Edit and check the Post Revisions module for previous saved versions of the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/

If you're not seeing the Revisions module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right corner of your Admin page) http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ to activate it. Then select the post and page modules to include them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules Then you ought to be able to go here > Dashboard > All Posts > Posts and locate the post and recover it from post revisions.

If you cannot locate the post for locating and restoring a post revision, and it's not in your Trash folder http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/ then you will not be able to recover it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

Did you create your post on the dashboard of your own blog?
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New

I had written my blog - a long one - and was just starting to add a couple of photos at the bottom. It kept placing them at the top, so I was adjusting it. All of a sudden one of my images comes up in the web page, so I click back to return to my blog and it takes me to the home page.
Went onto drafts, as it autosaves every minute or so, and there are no drafts!
I'm unhappy as it took my ages to write and it's not going to be the same as when I first wrote it :o(
I looked around and a main problem is not having drafts ticked to show on screen, but it is ticked to do so....
Can anyone help?

4 yrs ago the issue with WP was that if you have an unattached image, you insert it into a post A, it would be attached and appear in the gallery of that post A.
This of course is really stupid so I added 'extra' pics to another special holder post B to prevent insertion into the gallery.

Now that we have proper galleries, if I want to reassign the attached post of a pic, it's not possible. There is absolutely no way to move a pic into a gallery now?

I know this is probably not the place to ask this but I'm desperate. I have a Picometer word counter on my blog and no earthly idea how to change the wordcount. As it is, it's just sat there being utterly useless. I've looked on the web page but its like reading a foreign language.
So if anyone can please point me in the right direction or post simple instructions I'd be so grateful.

The wordpress and theme software build the "home" page, the page that displays your posts, dynamically and on the fly as requested from the visitor's browser. The page does not exist until a browser requests it.

No, this can be surely. The Home tab is a built-in link to your blog front, not a static page such as those you can create in Pages > Add New or edit in Pages > All Pages. By default, your blog front displays your latest posts. To "correct" things you need to delete the useless "Home2" page you created and just publish posts.

If you'd rather have your blog front display an intro page instead of your latest posts, again you need to delete the "Home2" page, create the intro page, create another page for your posts, then go to Settings > Reading and set the intro page as your front page and the other page as your posts page.

No this cannot be surely. In the dashboard this Home page does not exist but does so on the LIVE page so I cannot undertake any changes. I have created a new Home2 page which has everything up front and can be changed in the dashboard. I have done something and cannot work out what it was and how to correct it

If you're talking about the blog linked to your username, the Home tab is ok: it links to your blog front. But you have no posts, so your blog front has nothing to show, hence the "Not Found" message.

Thankyou for getting back to me, I did not think these things worked. No I did not use the link you refer to. I am still getting to grips with it all so please bare with me. I was working out how to add more pages and got mixed up with creating a custom menu which \i eventually realised I did not need, yet. In the process i created new page tabs along the top. it now seems i have a tab marked home with no link to that page. So really if I can recreate the link that would be fine or else delete altogether. Hope this makes sense to you. I do hope you get back as it would be good to keep same dreamin2 and not start all over again. Thanks
