Not positive on this but you can try this in your CSS until the experts come by...

.main-navigation {background: #fff;}

except change the color to the one you want. Be aware this will change the background but not the color of your text.

Let us know if that works.

All CSS editing is theme specific. If you aren't using Gridspace then that thread does not apply to your theme.

I would like to add a menu option in my top navigation. Right now I have Home and About which came with the theme. I'm new to wordpress and I'm having a little bit of trouble getting started. I want to add 'Galleries' to my top nav. Is there instructions on how to do this? Or is it a limitation with the theme I chose? Thanks

You can add a custom link to the top navigation using a custom menu.

You made your About page private, and private posts and pages won't show up in the top navigation under the header. To make the About page show up in the top navigation again, you should open the page for editing and update the visibility setting to "Public".

I was editing the 'About' page, tabbed below my header, by filling in the info about me. When I was finished, I pressed Update, and previewed the blog and the About tab on the header was gone. The About Page exists but I cannot figure out how to get that tab back on the top of my header next to the 'Home' tab. Can you assist?

You cannot exclude categories from the categories widget, but you can add categories to the top navigation using a custom menu.

On the categories widget, one thing that you could do would be to create a custom menu for use in the custom menu widget and then put only categories into that widget. It would not update automatically when new categories are added, but you could control which categories show there and even which order they are in.

RATS! I made two mistakes above.

Have you ever wanted to have a different title for one of your pages than the label displayed in your site’s navigation? Ever wanted to change the order of the list of pages to an order you chose yourself? Ever wanted to be able to mix pages, categories, and random links in your navigation instead of your theme deciding for you? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’re in luck! The new custom menus feature will do all those things <./blockquote>

G'day,
Usually this happens when one tries to creat a custom menu and does not do that correctly or sets up a custom menu for one theme and then changes themes.

The theme you use Twenty Ten does have the custom menu feature. That feature allows you to change the normal functioning of the theme which is to display dropdowns from parent pages to sub-pages AKA child pages and do the following instead:

Go to Appearance > Menus from your dashboard and create a custom menu. You can then pick which pages and categories and even external links you want to appear in your main navigation section. Remember to select the menu you just created as your primary navigation and click to save. You can even have certain links drop-down from a parent link when someone hovers their mouse above it.

What is shown by default in the top navigation are static pages such as an about page. MistyLook supports the new custom menus, so you now have a lot more flexibility. See this support document for what you can now do with menus.

Hello! I'm trying to understand how to add top navigation tabs to the Misty Look theme. Looks like others asked this on the forum about two years ago, which included instructions, but it appears that the user interface has changed since that time and the instructions are no longer accurate.

Hi Tom,
You didn't post the URL for the blog in question so we cannot see it. Seeing it would be helpful as we would then know what theme you are using and we could confirm whether or not it's actually a wordpress.com blog, as opposed to a wordpress.org blog.

All I want to do is have a top navigation bar that corresponds to my categories...

Assuming you do have a wordpress.conm blog there are three themes that do have optional features. In those themes one can choose to display categories across the horizontal menu where static Pages for content that rarely, if ever, changes is usually displayed. Those themes are found here > Appearance > Themes in a wordpress.com blog. The themes with this option are INove, Monochrome and Motion.

I tried to follow the instruction (text and video) for a static home page ("add new") but the "publish" command doesn't show up on the screen, so the page is stuck as a "draft." I can't publish it.
I went to "Settings>reading" to create a static page. The box with radio buttons didn't show up
on my screen.
All I want to do is have a top navigation bar that corresponds to my categories...
Can anyone help?

That trick only works cleanly with some themes here as explained in this blog post by Panos: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/26/page-tabs-as-external-links/ . K2 is not one of the themes it works cleanly on.
