We all have such numbers because once one clicks that they can then set their preferences for email receipt here > http://wordpress.com/#!/read/edit/ and most choose only to use the Reader.

I guess my discrepancy is in the numbers. I show 1200+ people opt-ed in but only have 27 emails when I look under my email followers. I also have a number of other WordPress bloggers following me but the difference in the email addresses doesn't add up. That's what I'm trying to figure out. Does that make sense? Thank you very much for any help.

No. That is not what I mean. There are over 1200 email unaccounted for on my site. If you look at my site, while you are logged out of wordpress, you will see a "+Follow" button on the bottom right hand side. It says that 1200 people are following me. You opt into this feature by entering your email. I want to know where those email addresses are stored and how/if I can access them.

your blog followers is the sum of the following:
WordPress.com blog followers (WordPress.com reader followers and email followers)
Any followers from connected Publicize services (Facebook, Twitter, Messenger Connect, Yahoo!, or LinkedIn), which you can enable in Settings -> Sharing

I think you have located this already but:
Go to your site stats page http://wordpress.com/#!/my-stats/ and scroll down to “Totals, Followers & Shares” on the left
Click the Blog link under the number http://wordpress.com/#!/my-stats/?blog_subscribers and the My Followers page will open. The total there on the left at the top is the number of people following your blog in the WordPress.com Reader. Click the Email Followers link. http://wordpress.com/#!/my-stats/?blog_subscribers&type=email

Can I access the email addresses of those who opt-into my site via the "Follow" button?

My blog has over 1100 people "Following" me according to the Follow Button widget but I want to know if those are actually people following me and where can I access their email addresses? I can see the email addresses for those who opt-into my blog via my email opt-in but that's only 27 people. The numbers don't add up.

are you sure?

In addition to that I discovered yesterday that the "Tags and Categories" panel on the right looks weird too. If a line holds more than one tag/category (e.g. "tag1, tag2" or "tag1, category1") the text is condensed in the first line but it still shows two icons. The result is a second empty line that just shows the icon.

The tags & categories panel on the right still seems to be broken. Let's add another screenshot to show you what I mean. :)

A vertical-align:bottom would be good too, so the tag/category icons are centered with the text.

@Automattic:
Just remove the "float:left;" from the "#tagviews a.topic-cat:before", etc.

For Shares tab and Spam tab just add:

margin-left: 20px;
 margin-right: 20px;

or reuse the "nodata" class.

There isn't a widget for that but you can view your followers by going to the "Stats" tab on the main page and scrolling down to Followers

If I check my stats at http://de.wordpress.com/#!/my-stats/ the "Totals, Followers & Shares" section at the bottom left of the page seems a little bit broken.

The "Totals" tab shows some html leftovers right beside the "Spam" tab. The text within the "Shares" and "Spam" tabs sticks to the left side. Seems like there is missing some margin or padding.

I've made some screenshots to show you what I mean:

Thank you both. I have looked at all links and Bryan - I saw my error. I thought the "sharing" page was just meant if I wanted people to be able to share my work (i.e. facebook). I now see my error and have corrected it and can see my likes. I "assumed" that followers photos would show like it does on blogspot. I guess not. Thank you both for your help. I may change my template so that I can have one sidebar that will scroll.

The "Show buttons on" options in Settings -> Sharing also applies to the WordPress.com Likes, so you'll need to check the appropriate option(s) so Likes will appear at the bottom of the posts.

For example, if you want Likes to appear while viewing your blog front page, check "Front Page, Archive Pages, and Search Results" in Settings -> Sharing, then click Save Changes.

I read the link, clicked on the title to my post titles, and still don't see the likes.

Gravatars for those who click "like" buttons are displayed just above the comment box and below the like button which is not appearing on your posts. You enable gravatar display on this page > Settings > Discussion scroll down to "avatars"

WordPress.com followers can be blog post follower and/or comment followers. There is no Facebook style box that they diaply in so fon't expect to find one. Go to your site stats page and click Totals, Followers & Shares

Click the Blog link under the number and the Site Stats » My Followers page will open. Click the Email Followers link.

There is a Like button appearing on our top navigation bar again from time to time. We don't get any announcements re: any technical features Staff are "testing". It can be used by logged in WordPress.com bloggers who are visiting other WordPress.com blogs.

Note that the like button will appear only when the post title or coments link are clicked and thw whole post is displayed on its own page.

I have "likes" enabled - how else would people be able to choose it? I have just started my wp blog and have rec'd 2 emails about likes, but I cannot see them at the bottom of the posts.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm not sure, though, that this is a good idea, since it will involve a good deal of double counting (I.e. FB friends who are already followers will be counted twice). Anyway, it looks good, I guess, even if I know in my heart it's cheating!
