While you're at it - is there any way to reduce the "white space" in this theme? there seems to be a big gap between the header and where the text starts. Any ideas?

@marcrichie
Pages and posts are different. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ Pages are static and are for content that rarely changes. They sit outside of the blog structure and they do not automatically update. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

You cannot post to multiple pages in any blog. There is only one main page for posts in a blog and all posts will display on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page.

Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page. We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages created by the software when you publish posts into the custom menu.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages-to-your-menu

Here’s a link to a custom menu walk-through > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/11/wordpress-com-custom-menu-walk-through/

There are many common errors, misunderstanding and misconceptions when creating custom menus and you can read about them here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

There is a featured post(s) showcase page on Twenty Eleven.

Hi Sixhours:

That was very helpful. But, one thing I still want to make sure I clarify is can I have posts of a certain category go directly to a page. Lets say I want to blog out food and sports. I have crated two separate pages from the blog page; one name food and the others sports. Can I write a blog post, select either food or sports and have it go to the home blog page as well as the respective food or sports page? If you look at my blog you will see how it's set up so far. I have seen other blogs with categories and the appear on the side like hyperlinks that music be clicked on, rather than live in a nice/clean page that I can have a feature photo for.

I have also purchased premium theme debut and am debating to use it. I like the clean likes and set up of twenty eleven. Only if I could get a hero slider on the main page and it would be perfect.

Best,

MR

Howdy!

Yes, this is possible with Posts, using Categories. Once you create a few categories and/or child categories, you can create and assign some Posts to them. Then you can view all the posts in each category by going to its unique URL -- something like urbanenyc.com/category/your-category-name/ (you can also get to this URL from the Posts -> Categories admin panel).

Some themes have content sliders -- you can browse themes with Post Sliders on the Theme Showcase.

If you want to add a photo gallery or slider to any post/page (not theme dependent), you can do so using a Shortcode.

There's no way to add a forum directly on WordPress.com, but you can always open Comments to foster discussion, and/or create a link to another forum service from your site.

I hope this helps!

Hello everyone,

Recently dipped by toes into the wordpress blogging website world. The blog/website that myself and co-authors would like to create is a multi-page website like we have done so far. Categorize the pages by parent themes; such as lifestyle, entertainment, special interest... and sub themes; such as food, travel, pets etc. However, the issue that we are encountering is the ability to post to an individual category/page theme. We wouldn't mind it also being on the front page, but the ability to have individual/custom post pages is key to having our idea work.

I am part of wordpress.com and not org, we are not self hosted. But, the lack of customization kinda sucks. Anyone know of a way to customize a theme further, like I want to add in a photo slider, or a forum etc? I am sure it is not possible, but thought to ask.

Thanks so much and looking forward to some helpful suggestions.

Designsimply,
Most certainly I shall take care of posting in the proper forums going forward.
Thank you for your response.
For (3) in my questions above, it was a problem only on google chrome, was fine on Firefox.
Problem fixed by changing this:
@media max-width 650px {
.entry-title {
font-size: 34px; (this was earlier 15px)
}
}

Will check out the seamless studio. Was looking for some shortcuts though.

Regarding the ipad appearance, looks like I'll need more help. It does not seem straight forward. Blog does not look the same on ipad. Many others blogs turn out just fine in proportion. Sidebars, You may also like, heading fonts all have gone disproportionate in mine. Will post a new thread on the forum.

4) Is there a way to make the sidebar be present even for singular content?

Not in the case of Twenty Eleven using CSS because you can only use CSS to make adjustments to content that is already present on the page and the Twenty Eleven single posts don't load the sidebar at all. It's just how the theme was designed to work.

If you changed the font face or font size on the Appearance → Custom Design → Fonts page, then that rule tries to override everything else and you need to add "!important" to the end of your newer CSS rule to re-override it using custom CSS.

2) Also, the heading fonts h1, h2, h3, h4 all of them look oversize on ipad. Don't know how to fix it.

It looks like an intentional part of the theme design to me combined with how iPad interprets the font sizes in your custom CSS. You can try to adjust sizes separately for the iPad like this:

@media max-width 800px {
	h1.entry-title,
	h1.entry-title a,
	.entry-content h2,
	.entry-content h3,
	.entry-content h4 {
 font-size: 1.2em !important;
	}
}

Change the 1.2em value to adjust the size. Note that you can break out each selector into separate rulesets if you want to use different sizes for each heading element.

Hi,

There used to be a way to get into specific style templates by accessing "Appearance," and then "Editor" in the TwentyEleven. I can't seem to locate it any more. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

Designsimply,
It worked like a charm! Thanks a bunch..

Have another long nagging issue with the display on mobile and ipad.
In my child theme, have changed the banner width to 1200. Layout looks fine on ie, chrome and firefox on the laptop. However, same thing is all torn on mobile and ipad. Only the header is jutting out and the rest of the content is only half the width.
Please let me know how to fix it. It is such an eyesore of a display on the mobile devices!

In my customized child theme of twenty eleven, the sidebar is now pushed to the bottom. This behavior is in chrome, whereas it appears fine in firefox. Earlier, all alignments would look good in chrome.
preliminary changes on #primary, #secondary did not help.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this?
