I am volunteering with an organization called the Sky Valley Community Coalition. There is a wordpress blog that exists for our organization, but it is old, not updated, and has just been sitting there unused. (http://skyvalleycoalition.wordpress.com/) We would like to either start updating it, or have it deleted so that we can start a new one. The problem is that we don't know who created it or any of the passwords or username info. We know nothing about it. It's possible it may have been started by Dave Wood of the VOA, but he has passed away. Is there anything I can do to get this blog either going again or removed?

Hiya.
I have a blog, currently at http://www.hotmilkandhoney.wordpress.com.
However, I want to change this. I have the perfect name and I know how, there's just one problem - the domain is taken. Normally I wouldn't mind, but the blog at the domain I want has not been edited in 7 years and has no posts or anything. Is it possible to get wordpress to delete the blog, so I may have the domain? The URL in question is at http://www.butterscotch.wordpress.com
Many thanks,
Anna

Hello friends,

I will soon take off for a six month sabbatical in Asia. I want to setup a blog and am pretty advanced already. I would like to use the wordpress account "escapology" which is unfortunately taken.

Looking at the blog, it seems it ahsn't been used at all since 2006. Is there a way I can request deleting this account so I could make use of it? I would really love to name my blog escapology. Having the name in the URL would be just perfect.

Thanks a lot for your advice,

My blog is subject-specific and the only titles that really make sense are - EdenRevisited.wordpress.com, - BackToEden.wordpress.com or - ReturnToEden.wordpress.com. All other less relevant, unsatisfactory titles are already under use anyway.

The former two, "Eden Revisited" and "Back to Eden" are still being used; .....fair enough!

The last-named blog, "Return to Eden", however, is no longer used.
Here is the proof. "The authors have deleted this blog"

So how do we get it released so that it can be re-used?

If it cannot.... we are on very dodgy ground here. If someone took a dislike to WordPress, ......he could very easily use existing sampling software to flood WordPress with every permutation of blog-address in the English language and make it impossible to open another blog.

Surely WordPress must have a contingency to avoid this. Therefore it must be possible to release old unused blog-names, effectively by deletion.

So, given this, how do I take over the old blog-address ReturnToEden.wordpress.com?

I got two cars for free. I'd be pretty pissed off if a stranger thought they should have them.

If we're talking moral imperatives, how many do you think are required of WP.com and how many required of the owners of those blog names? Besides, anyone so short of imagination as to come up with only ONE name that's good probably won't write a kickass blog anyway. If nothing else you can always register Whatever.Wordpress.Com and get the domain upgrade to make it SuperDuperBlogname.com.

If you want something that somebody else has, you can ask them nicely to give it to you, and if that is unsuccessful you can even ask them if they want money for it. But you can't muscle them, claiming some sort of moral high ground.

Let's say that 4 years ago you linked to a blog from your blog, because it had content relevant to your blog. Let's say that this blog stops posting for 3 years and then I come along and get that expired name and set up a blog with some totally different content that you would never ever want to link to, e.g. mature content of sexually explicit nature. Are you going to check all your posts from 3 years back to make sure that nothing has happened to the blogs you linked to? Of course not. That's just one reason why blogs should never expire.
