@TheSacredPath- Is there any chance that when I set up the .ORG account with the username NicholeMoisant I simultaneously reserved/restricted the username/URL on the .COM site? May 2012 seems to be about the time I set up the .ORG username.

10 months ago, someone signed up for the username, nicholemoisant ( http://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/nicholemoisant ) but they did not get the blog associated with that username. When that happens, to prevent misunderstandings and confusion, WordPress.com will reserve that blog address (URL) for them.

Unless you could find contact information for the user, and get them to transfer the account and blog to you, you are probably out of luck.

When we register a username account the matching blog is reserved for our future use. It cannot be obtained by anyone other than the person who has registered the matching username account. If you own the matching username account and have lost your log-in information you can visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
and click the "need more help" link if necessary.

Couple of questions:

1. The address nicholemoisant.wordpress.com shows reserved. I own the domain nicholemoisant.com. Is there any way to gain access to this username/site?

2. I have several wordpress blogs, but I also have 2 (that I can find) usernames. Is there anyway to combine my usernames so that all my blogs show up under the same dashboard/account?

Thanks. I was aware of that, and it was indeed the case for most of them, but a couple of them weren't.

You'd have to ask the person for their email address. WordPress won't give out that information. If they have a contact form you could use that to ask them privately. Or you could invite them to view your blog either in a comment or in their contact form so they will see this:

http://alifeonmission.wordpress.com/ is marked private by its owner. You can:

Request access to view the site. We'll send your username to the site owner for their approval.

Some themes will show authors next to posts or next to comment replies. If the blog is xxx.wordpress.com then the username is often xxx, but leaving a comment and asking is the only way to be sure

I'm trying to invite people to join my private blog, but for a few of them, I only know their blog--not the username. Is there someway I can find out so I can invite them, or do I need to leave them a comment asking them to tell me?

Complete strangers have gotten into my blog and started posting under the usernames "kolvalsky09" and "kramalooma25." They have not, redirected the site's urls however. I've considered using iPage's own site-cleaning service, but the cost is too high. What should I do?

I've read instructions on this subject, which I found here at FAQ My Site Was Hacked and some of the linked posts. I've changed the password both on iPage and on WordPress, as well as the secret key. Now I'm not sure what to do. I know that I should update my version of WordPress, but beyond that I'm not sure.
I do not have any pre-hack files of my SQL databases. iPage's "Backups and Restore" tool explicitly says "You will not be able to use this tool to automatically restore SQL databases." I have a few other questions:
1. Would it be too complicated just to copy the html code of my posts, delete everything, and then start building over again by pasting the posts to their respective days?
2. Are the hackers' codes usually hidden in the posts themselves or in the themes?
3. Just how useful is the "Backups and Restore" tool anyway?

Here's more information on display names and usernames. When we register a username account here the email address we provide becomes our unique identifier. When we are logged into WordPress.com and register a blog it's registered to that username account we are logged in under and to the email address which is our unique identifier. We can register as many blogs as we wish and provided we are using the same username account then all the blogs will be registered under it and the associated email account. We can change our "display name" but that display name will appear on all blogs registered under the same username account.

In order to completely separate the blogs that you do not want to be associated with each other you register another username account using a different email address when you are logged out of WordPress.com. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/ Then you add the new username account as an official user of the blog, and designate them (ie. you) as an Admin. I would like to appear my posts for the second blog to appear under the name Alexandra Dumas or Alexandra Dumas fille, not the first name schwanmitbrille. How do I manage that?

Yes, there is always a way to find out who is behind a blog. You will want to create an entirely new username (sign out of the old one, then make a new one with a new email) and Invite that ID to be the Admin of the blog.

I have several blogs through WordPress.com, and they are all accessed together under the username I set up with my first blog.

However, one of my blogs I intend to use to speak about sensitive topics that I don't want associated with me. Is it possible for someone for someone to look up my wordpress username and see all the blogs associated with it? If so, is there a way to disassociate my sensitive topic blog from my others, and segregate it under a new user name?

Hi there,
I was blogging a while ago at http://www.amandavella.wordpress.com. My username was amandavellayoga.

Have come back to the blog and changed my username to amandavvella not realising this was going to impact on the blog itself.

Now it seems amandavella.wordpress.com still exists but I cannot login to my old blog to publish.

When I login with my username it says I have no blogs.

Have I completely messed up??

I have started two different blogs - one under a name on twitter (so I am identifiable) and the other I want as an anonymous poetry blog. I had my username as the twittername but then saw that when I posted on the second blog - visualizewhatyoucantsee, this would come up as eg 'john smith posted on visualizewhatyoucantsee's blog' so i changed it to visualizewhatyoucantsee's blog, however as my second blog is also linked into the same account it now works the other way so will say visualizewhatyoucantsee posted on John smith's blog - hence giving away the fact that it me writing both and is therefore not anonymous. I hope that makes sense?? So how can i have two different blogs but have different names showing as posting the content - so visualizewhatyoucantsee posts on visualizewhatyoucantsee's blog and John Smith posts on John Smiths blog - as they are both on my one account?

Or you can register a domain vis a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

Username accounts are not deleted. For more information, please see http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/

1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.

2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:

3. To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:

I am trying to create a new blog on wordpress.com. I want to see if I will stick with it before I take the effort to build out my self-hosted version.

I tried two different usernames that did not work. However, when I go to the URLs with those usernames, it says the blogs have been deleted.

Will those usernames ever become available again?
