Dear bloggers,

I am managing a site for a popular arts publication in Dubai. We have recently launched the new wordpress custom site. I was making some changes this morning and by mistake changed the UTF unicode to 16 from 8. I have read a number of similar posts of people doing the same thing. Changing the Unicode encoding on my browser does not work however.

Here is the url: http://www.brownbook.me

Can someone from Support please help me with the issue, or if any bloggers know other solutions of gaining access to the options page to change it back.

We need to get the site back up asap.

Regards

Ok, thanks!, it wasn´t the browser but the company where I registered the domain name (quierohacerfotos.com) which I forward to quierohacerfotos.wordpress.com

It was your post about the framing that "brought my ears up", thank you :)

I tested entering quierohacerfotos.wordpress.com in Facebook and it looked beautiful! Then tested again with http://www.quierohacerfotos.com and then it´s when the strange characters showed up again.

I´m doing some tests but the solution has been found, thanks again, I will definitely get more deeply into learning about frames.

See this validation report. At the very least you need to take care of the issues it lists otherwise the search engines are going to virtually ignore your framed page.

Seriously though, I strongly suggest mapping the domain name to the blog here rather than the frame.

One other thing, you have your site in a frame within your website, but from looking at the source code, you have not declared a doctype or any of the other stuff that needs to be in the "head" section of a page on the web.

Also, since your blog appears to be the only thing on your website, putting it into a frame is not the best way to do things. It is better to map that domain name to the blog here. I highly discourage using frames as they can really mess things up.

Hi

When I enter the link to my WordPress.com blog in Facebook (or any other website) all Spanish accents are interpreted as question marks, it looks like this:

Talleres pr?cticos de fotograf?a
http://www.quierohacerfotos.com
fotograf?a, profesional, Espa?a, talleres, pr?cticos, cursos

You can see it here: http://www.facebook.com/quierohacerfotos

According to the different available help this can be solved either changing the "DB_CHARSET" line of code in one of the php files (not possible as I can´t access any php or html files in WordPress.com)

or going to Options > Reading

and selecting UTF-8 from the drop down menu.

Where is this option? The most similar one I have found is under Settings > Reading but there is no single drop down menu that allows you to choose UTF-8 there, where is it?

Also, where can I change the title and the keywords embedded in html? (the two text lines shown when I enter my page link, see above). It´s not the title that appears under Settings > General as I´ve already changed that from "Talleres prácticos de fotografía" to "Aprende a manejar tu camara" (you can see it if you open my website, http://www.quierohacerfotos.com, the title at the browser still says "T?alleres pr?cticos de fotograf?a", I can´t find the fields where I introduced both the title and the keywords to describe my website, I´m going bananas! (if I can´t change the strange characters at least temporaly I can delete them and leave only the web address when refering to my website).

Many thanks,

Mj

I'm using wordpress.com to host a blog in German (gruebelei.de) and I got a problem with RSS feeds that have mutated vowels ("Umlaute") in their title. The RSS-Widget seems to be unable to interpret these characters. I doublechecked with the authors of the feeds (one is a wordpress.org blog) and they say their feeds match UTF-8. There's no problem with these feeds in other RSS-readers, only in wordpress' RSS widget.

Any ideas how to solve that problem?

I am hoping somebody can help me with this issue. My WordPress webpage http://www.fairbar.dk is being shut down by the domain supplier. They did it last week as well and I thought I solved it by erasing and blocking for spam comments. But now they shut it down again because of this error message:
Filling server's error log with: WordPress-databasefejl Unknown character set: 'utf-8' for foresp\xc3\xb8rgslen SET NAMES 'utf-8' fra require, require_once, require_once, require_once, require_wp_db, require_once

"databasefejl" is Danish and means "Database error". I need to fix this as soon as possible and hope somebody can help. There might be a solution somewhere else in the forum and I have al ready searched but without luck so far - so if you know where it is I would appreciate a link.

Thank you from Gorm

Hi! I have to problems I hope you can help me solve:)

1) I am using the encoding UTF-8. All characters are working fine in the content, but in the sidebar and the footer characters like éñëê etc... appear as sqaures... What do I have to do? I've heard something about that I have to save the sidebar and the footer as UTF-8???

2) I'm using the contact-form by Douglas Karr, but when I try to deactivate the plugin, the whole site is disappearing... When I activate it again, the site appears... That is the first problem. The second is that you can't click in the text-areas and write our name etc.. when the contact-form is in a area beside the sidebar, but below works ok. And when I try to send it says "thanks for the comments!", but when I read it the text does not appear..... What's happening!!?

Thank you for help!!

Yep, I though this looked different from the last time I visited. Ok, thanks for the help. By the way, even though you said you can't help me, directing me to the correct place was help ;) Thanks!
