This new version of the wordpress given the facebookish feature of Ajax load posts and that seems to break alot of current themes. Sigh.

It would be great if this message can be forwarded to Matthew Buchanan.

MESSAGE: I absolutely LOVE your Vertigo theme, and was wondering is there a way to have our Links along the right side, next to our latest post. I'm afraid, in this short-attention-span world, nobody will get that far down the page to see them. Am I missing something in Customize that would allow the Links to be in a side bar at the top of the page?

We are currently using the Piano Black theme, but Vertigo has a more indie feel, and we'd like to switch.

Twenty Eleven is a nice, responsive design theme and a good starting point. But I also really think it depends on your end goal and how much you'd like to change the theme you pick as your starting point.

Did you try looking at the feature filters (the button on the right side) in the theme showcase?

Thanks for your help! I just changed it to show 3 posts per page -- didn't know I could do that! I really like the way this theme looks, but it doesn't seem to be all that flexible. Are there others that are easier to work with, that I could at least practice a little bit on? HTML, CSS (and wordpress and blogging) are all new to me.

You might be able to do it without too much trouble if you use floats.

Try starting with:

#main {
     float: left;
     width: 700px;
}

.entry-info {
    width: 180px;
}

.format-standard .container {
     background: none;
     padding: 0px 30px 0px 200px;
}

#supplementary {
     border: none;
     padding: 35px 0px 0px;
}

Be careful when adjusting widths. For example, if you change the ".entry-info" width you should also change the left padding (the last number) in ".format-standard .container".

The format for padding is:

padding: top right bottom left;

I will tell you right now, that this is a pretty major project due to the way that this theme is designed and adjustments have to be made to tons of stuff.

That is the way the theme is designed and I'm not sure if that can be changed.

Don't use any character in a title that triggers one of the symbols or switch to a different theme.

I'm also using Vertigo theme, and I find that those graphics appear every time I use parenthesis "()" in the title. Well, sometimes, it's annoying, because I don't want my parenthesis to look like CDs... Have you found any solution for this?

It is a feature of this particular theme and uses what is known as "cufon." I've just started to read up on it. It is kind of cool actually. I'm not sure if there are other special characters that would translate to symbols or whether it is just the parentheses. Perhaps they did something with double quote marks as well.

I love the vertigo theme, which I use for my RADIO DEMAGOGUES blog. One interesting feature, sometimes, on some of the headlines for some of the posts, some small graphics – a hand with a gun and what appears to be a CD disc on top of a small book – appear next to the headline characters. They just show up, even though you don't key them in. I like the look of these very much, but I wouldn't want them in every headline.

Two questions:

1) Does anyone know if users have any control over these graphics? Can you key them in yourself? If not, do they just automatically appear per every so many posts?

2) Are there any other graphics that appear in HLs for the vertigo theme other than the two that I mentioned?

This is a great theme. Just want to understand better how it works. Also, is the other graphic a CD disc, or something else?
