Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

Could it have anything to do with using a video from youtube yesterday? This has never happened and I've been using this blog since 2009.

I don't like that ad either, and too be honest with you all, I had no idea that was spam until I read it here. I wouldn't know what spam looked like, unless it was sitting in a can in front of me. So, I appreciate your efforts in reporting this.

Maybe it's time to upgrade to a no ad blog.

Sadly I don't think the ad in question is anything out of the ordinary for wordpress.com nowadays. It's always worth reporting them just so they're aware that not everyone is OK with them, and to try and put them off showing even more, but these kind of ads have been appearing for months now with no real sign of their incidence decreasing.
