On the bottom of your Admin page you will find a link to the Learn WordPress.com blogging Tutorial prepared by Staff. http://learn.wordpress.com/
The support documentation is all found at the Support link http://en.support.wordpress.com which is also on the bottom of your Admin page.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/

These 5 videos introduce how Google discovers, crawls, indexes your site’s pages, and how Google displays them in search results. It also touches lightly upon challenges webmasters and search engines face, such as duplicate content http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/03/22/5google-webmasters-video-tutorials/

If you are using a WordPress.com theme good SEO is a given. However, going beyond the theme what the blogger has done within that structure is worth evaluating. Whether you write informative, persuasive or controversial content learning how search engines work, and how to apply basic SEO to you content will benefit your blog as it will increase traffic from targeted readers. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/10/21/two-seo-videos-for-bloggers/

6 Ways to Make Google Your Blog’s Best Friend > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/10/08/6-ways-to-make-google-your-blogs-best-friend/

Here are 25 basic steps to take to increase traffic to your blog:
1. Structure a reader and search engine blog;
2. In blogging content is king create unique, high quality content so publish fresh content frequently;
3. Learn basic SEO so you can use keywords effectively and apply basic SEO to your headlines, blog and posts;
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results.
4. Make your blog posts look professional;
5. Create at least 4-6 pillar posts and continue to create pillar posts;
Pillar posts are also referred to as flagship content. Pillar posts are comprehensive posts that offer great value to readers as the contents are timeless in nature. They define you as having authority in the niche you blog in.
6. Select and link to appropriate anchor text;
7. Leave meaningful comments on related blogs and encourage comments on your own blog;
8. Develop relationships with other bloggers so you can build a blog readers’ community around your own blog;
9. Support the blog centered communities on related blogs by commenting on them and promoting posts from them;
10. Link to authoritative sources in your posts;
12. Assign appropriate categories and tag your posts with care;
13. Link to related authoritative blogs in your blogroll;
14. Provide RSS feeds for subscribers;
RSS (Rich Site Summary or really simple syndication) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.
15. Having a well designed theme is important, evaluate your theme for effectiveness, and if required, create a new header, make improvements or replace your theme and reduce page loading time;
16. Avoid cluttering your blog with widgets that lack reader value and slow page loading time;
17. Buy your own domain and domain mapping;
18. Verify your blog with the three big search engines.
19. Get organized, use an online to do list by developing a blogging workflow;
20. Join social networks and social media sites like Facebook and use Twitter, Friendfeed and other Free RSS directories to promote your blog posts;
21. Promote your blog through social networks, online groups, and selected directories;
22. Develop a social media time management strategy and stick to it;
23. Submit your latest pillar article to a blog carnival;
24. Become a guest blogger on sites with higher page rank than your own site.
25. Create newsletters, podcasts, videos and/or Ebooks for your subscribers.

So I've been posting on my blog http://whataboutthetwinkie.wordpress.com since last October. I have a Facebook page and a twitter account for my blog. Up until recently I posted regularly, commented on and liked other posts and followed fellow movie bloggers.

However it seems I am not getting many views, comments and likes compared to other people. I have all my settings turned to the appropriate action to promote my page. The only thing I haven't done is get google or bing verified yet.

As I say I have been doing this since October and don't have 2,000 site views yet, I think I'm on 1,886. To put that in perspective, a fellow blogger who doesn't post as frequently as me and has been blogging for a shorter period than me already has over 10,000 site views.

My question is, am I doing something wrong? Can I do more to promote my page? Any hints or tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey guys,

So today I wrote a post for my blog burnthatmovie.wordpress.com. Usually the stats page shows me all of the views at the moment I get them. However, today for some reason, it is not counting the Facebook views I've received. I would say that it's just that people have not been hitting on the link on Facebook, but it says on the post that I've gotten 17 shares from inside the blog through the Facebook share button, while stats say that I've gotten 4 views for that post. Is this only happening to me? If so, how could I fix this problem?

Re: stats, likes and shares
Our stats are not real time stats. The data is cached and takes hours to update. See here for more on stats > http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

Do be aware the likes and shares are not pages view stats. Likes and shares are misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com blog who is logged into WordPress.com can "like" and "share" your posts in several locations such as in email and the Reader without ever clicking into your blog and creating a page view stat.

You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed here > Settings > Reading and choose the "summary" setting for your RSS feed or the "full text". If you set it to summary then visitors have to click into the blog to read the full post.

A recent post was 'liked' on wordpress by four people, but the post has only received two views.

Does this mean that people are liking it without actually reading it? Or am I misunderstanding the "view" statistics?

Visitors v views = one Visitor can View more than one post.
The averages are just that, averages. Many people can view one thing and one person can hang around and look at lots of things, unless you know exactly who is doing what those stats are just an entertainment.

Subscribers get counted just the same as everyone else, just because they subscribe doesn't mean they have looked on any given day so the views are just the people who have looked at your blog regardless of where they came from.

Regarding the stats page:

1: Can anyone explain the difference between Page Views & Visitors? Each visitor looks at one+ page (The views per visitor stat seems to be between 1.25 & 1.9. Is this average, good or bad?)

2: Where do my email subscribers get counted? If they were the difference between views & visitors I'd expect that number to equal my email subscribers.

Thanks for any help.

Okay, I think I understand. I'm not going to change my current settings because I like the way the two posts look now -- full sized images, not thumbnails. Also, if changing the settings from what they are now is going to change the appearance of prior "mosaic" displays, I don't want to ruin them.

As a note to WP, it seems to me the different gallery/slideshow settings and types should be exclusive to each post, not global for the entire blog. When I'm choosing a certain presentation for a new post, I shouldn't have to worry about my choices changing a bunch of my older posts (almost 2,000 on my blog) -- each of which was careful designed and laid out at the time. At the very least, somewhere in the slideshow/gallery dialogue it should mention that whatever choices are made will be applied to ALL previous posts, not just the current one.

In any case, thanks for the reply.
